However I belive if you asked people how much they care, the vast majority would say its about as meaningful to them as the eye color of the under secretary of defense comptroller.

This. I've been throwing around the idea of getting one for ages. They are more sanitary, IMO, to start. Also save on toilet paper.

A - Under the roll!

There is just something about having it 'under the roll' that makes the paper easier to handle.

nobody in our house can agree, so the toilet paper has been sitting on the floor underneath an empty roll holder for months
Personally, I prefer over the roll.
