  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Not really, its just difficult :p

Gold from Lead? sure, not that it would be profitable or easly done.

Anyone who denies the transmutation of elements has declared war on science.

Transmutations of elements through chemical reactions (alchemy) =/= Transmutation of elements through nuclear reactions

The first one is shown to be impossible, and the second unprofitable.

"When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong." -- Arthur C. Clarke, author, 1962

"For many centuries scholars thought that chemical elements were stable and could not be transformed. This is why the alchemists were regarded as dreamers, charlatans, or idiots. But in the year 1919 the great English physicist Rutherford sided with the alchemists and transmuted nitrogen into oxygen and hydrogen by bombarding it with helium. That was the day of the vindication of the alchemical doctrine of transmutation." -- Andrew Tomas, author, 1971

"Many times, physicists say that certain things are impossible – like physicists said that airplanes were impossible at one point. That’s because we didn’t understand the laws of physics very well." -- Michio Kaku, physicist, February 2008

Of course atheists think science quotes are annoying.

Shock and awe.

Michio Kaku is not talking about alchemy there. He's talking about the weird implications of quantum and string theories. If you lift that quote simply to say to everybody, "let's be open-minded about different hypotheses and theories", then that's fine. But you're using these quotes as your primary evidence that alchemy is a respected field of science, which is ridiculous.

And nuclear physics =/= alchemy.

He's talking about possible and impossible.

His implication is that pseudoscientists who don't believe in alchemy, who deny the empirical fact that chemical elements can be alchemically transmuted, and who have declared war on science, do not understand the laws of physics.

But you're using these quotes as your primary evidence that alchemy is a respected field of science, which is ridiculous.
I never said pseudoscientists who deny the alchemical transmutation of elements respect science...

And nuclear physics =/= alchemy.
Alchemy made claims and predictions that were confirmed by nuclear physics.

By denying alchemy, you have declared war on science and physics.

He's talking about possible and impossible.

He writes books about time travel, parallel universes, and aliens. That's what he's talking about. But in a broad scope, yes, he's talking about possible and impossible. Just because nothing is impossible doesn't mean that everything is possible.

He says nothing about alchemy.

Actually, if nothing is impossible, then that does, in fact, mean that everything is possible. If anything isn't possible then it is false that nothing is impossible.
