Luke 21:24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. NKJV

Paul in Acts 9: 15 was made an apostle to the Gentiles. In Luke above he prophesied when the times of the Gentiles, Church age, would end.

Revelation 11:1 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. NKJV

John, in the book of Revelation above, saw the end of the times of the Gentiles. At that time the church age will end.

Romans 11:11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. 12 Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! NKJV

Israel's fall provoked them to jealousy and was riches for the Gentiles. Their fall was also greater riches for the fullness of the Gentiles. The fullness of the gentiles is the stick of Ephraim, in the world, which the Messiah will unite to the stick of Judah in the present-day nation of Israel.

Romans 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; NKJV

When the 144,000, some of the fullness, have finished their gathering in of their brethren, the fullness and Gentiles, all true Israel, both sticks, will be united and raptured. At that time and all ungodliness will be taken away from Jacob, the earthly Israel who will not believe in Jesus, yet are protected by God on earth in the nation of Israel.

Genesis 48:17 Now when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him; so he took hold of his father's hand to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head." 19 But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations." 20 So he blessed them that day, saying, "By you Israel will bless, saying, 'May God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh!'" And thus he set Ephraim before Manasseh. NKJV

Jacob gave Joseph a double portion in the land God set aside for Abraham's descendants. In the verses above Jacob blessed the younger Ephraim above Manasseh. In verse 19 Ephraim shall become a multitude (fullness) of (the) nations (Gentiles).

When Israel split under Rehoboam the northern kingdom was referred to as Ephraim. When the northern kingdom was scattered Ephraim went out and became the fullness of the gentiles. Ezekiel prophesied the Messiah would reunite the two nations. The 144,000 messianic Israelis will find the fullness just prior to the end of the church age. At the start of the church it took 12 apostles for Israel to one for the gentiles. At the end of the church age, it will take 144,000 to convince Israel and a great number of gentiles.

I used to understand this the same as you. But, now I think the "times of the Gentiles" was their literal 3 1/2 year siege of Jerusalem in 67-70 AD.
The temple in Jerusalem was still standing when John was told to measure it. The gentile Roman armies did tread the holy city for 42 months (3 1/2 years) in 67-70 AD.

The gospel was actually preached to the whole known world in the apostles' lifetime.

1 Thessalonians 1:8 And because of you, the Lord's message has spread everywhere in those regions. Now the news of your faith in God is known all over the world, and we don't have to say a thing about it.

1 Timothy 3:16

We are in the Church Age now. The Church Age will end when Jesus returns to earth (his second coming) at the end of time.

The so-called rapture is not until the end of time. It will be Judgment Day when Jesus returns to earth for his second appearance on earth. His first appearance was 2000 years ago.

John 5:28-29 Don't be surprised! The time will come when all of the dead will hear the voice of the Son of Man, 29 and they will come out of their graves. Everyone who has done good things will rise to life, but everyone who has done evil things will rise and be condemned.

Thank you for your reply. I do not agree. My reasons are.

In Luke 21:24 it does not say that the temple will be trod on until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. It says that Jerusalem will be trod by the gentiles until their time is over. In revelation it states that the temple will be trod for three and a half years. If the temple is being trod when the two witnesses are there, Jerusalem is still being trod on by the gentiles. It has not ceased to be trod on for over 2000 years. Israel gained possession of Jerusalem in 1967 and the temple mount and Jerusalem are still being trod on by gentiles.

Matthew 21:42 Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing,

And it is marvelous in our eyes'?

43 "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. 44 And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." NKJV

After Israel rejected Jesus the kingdom was taken from Israel and given to the gentiles. The age of the gentiles will end when Jesus puts His church back in the Temple in Jerusalem.

John prophesied in his gospel as to when that would take place.

John 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. NKJV

On the third day from when Jesus started His ministry there will be a wedding and Jesus and all His disciples are invited. If the date of Jesus' birth is accurate then the wedding can take place any time after 2030.

Matthew 24:32 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near — at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. NKJV

Jesus also stated that we should learn from the parable of the fig tree. The generation that sees green leaves on the fig will not pass away until all the things from Matthew 24:1 to 24: 31 had happened. Jesus told one parable about a fig tree.

Luke 13:6 He also spoke this parable: "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, 'Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?' 8 But he answered and said to him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.'" NKJV

God had a fig tree in His vineyard, Israel, that Jesus visited every year during His ministry and never got any fruit from. The tree was His temple in Jerusalem. Every year from 1967 on we have heard of all the things done by the Priests and Levites to prepare for the new temple they plan on building. If this is accurate then the fig tree generation will pass away in 2037 or 2047 by Psalms 90: 10 .

Amazing things one can learn from the parables. One can almost learn how the kingdom of God operates. Thank you again. God bless.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, I appreciate it.

Revelation 11:2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city (Jerusalem) underfoot for forty-two months.

I think the (times of the Gentiles) time period was 42 months. They trod the city of Jerusalem for 42 months until it and its temple were destroyed.

Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
(42 months)

Jesus told his followers that all these things would happen during their own generation:

Luke 21:32-33 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth (AKA the temple) will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
After Israel rejected Jesus the kingdom was taken from Israel and given to the gentiles. The age of the gentiles will end when Jesus puts His church back in the Temple in Jerusalem.

We are in the Church Age now. There is no distinction between Jew and Gentile in Christ's church.

Romans 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him
"THIS GENERATION will by no means pass away till all these things take place."

Jesus said that heaven and earth (AKA the temple) will pass away in this very generation.
It did pass away in 70 AD.

Thank you for sharing your opinion.

I understand it like this:

Jesus preached to the Jews for over three years. He sought good fruit (figs) from them. Few of the Jews believed that he was their Messiah, so the majority of them did not produce the good fruits (repentance and conversion to Christ's kingdom)..

Matthew 21:42-44
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.

This was the Lord’s doing,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 “Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. 44 And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

In the last year of Jesus' ministry, he cursed the fig tree because it did not bear the good fruit that it should have. It withered and died, no green leaves survived. Therefore, the time for the unbelieving Jews' destruction was near.

Mark 11:20-22 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.

Matthew 21:43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

The apostles and disciples evangelized the whole known world within their own lifetime.

Romans 16:25-27 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith— 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

Luke 21:29-31 Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. 31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Summer came:

Mark 13:14 “So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation (Roman armies encamping around Jerusalem),’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Jesus tells them that the abomination of desolation will be the (Roman) armies.

Luke 21:20-21 But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her.

It is okay if we don't agree. I like hearing other people's opinions. They help to form (and re-form) my own.

Thank you again,

If I understand your post, you say the fig tree is the nation of Israel. Even in your post there is a statement that denies Israel as the fig tree. The nation was scattered, and any other nation would have withered away, Israel did not. Here are two more items said of the fig tree.

Matthew 21:18 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you ever again." Immediately the fig tree withered away. NKJV

Immediately after His death He got great numbers of fruit from Israel. Jesus has continued to get fruit from the nation of Israel. Not in great numbers but occasionally an unbelieving Jew will convert. That small number denies the statement above. When Jesus says, “no fruit ever again”, I take that as fact.

From the time Jesus cursed the fig tree no one ever received any fruit from the temple, The Apostles did get fruit from the unbelieving Israelis who gathered there.

Mark 11:20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. NKJV

The unbelieving Jews still have their roots. As a matter of fact, they are still proud of their heritage. Their roots have held them firm and made them strong.

The temple, priesthood and animal sacrifices had its roots in the law of Moses. Therefore, the temple dried up from its roots. After Jesus died it is as you say, we are the temple, and our roots are in the new covenant.

By those 2 statements there is no way the fig tree could be the nation of Israel. I agree that we will not agree.

God bless.

Are you certain you aren't referring to 2 different times?
Right now as we look at Jeruselum, the Temple mount and much of Israel is still trampled by gentiles.
When the Jews are in possession of the Temple mount , things will begin to change.

It seems to me that the Scriptures in Matthew and Luke that I quoted in my earlier post were referring to events which were soon to come (in that very same generation) in the first century AD.

There have always been Christians in the geographical area of Israel since the first century AD.
Unfortunately, when the Zionist Jews were given possession of Israel in 1948, they displaced most of the Christians.

Who, now, actually has the moral right to live in the land that we call Israel?
It is the Christians.

Galatians 3:6-9 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith. 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

Galatians 3:29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Romans 9:8 That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

Genesis 12:7: “To your offspring I will give this land.

Genesis 15:18: “To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.”

Genesis 17:8: “The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you.”

There is now no distinction between Jew and Greek (Gentile) in Christ's kingdom. Christ's death on the cross made the first covenant obsolete. Hebrews 8:13

Building a third temple to perform animal sacrifices would actually be an abomination to God.

God gave his only begotten Son to become the perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus shed his blood on the cross once for all, having obtained eternal redemption by his perfect sacrifice. Hebrews 9:12

There were believers who had been told that the rapture of the church had already occure, causing much fear and distress. This was during Paul's mission.
The rapture occurs at Jesus' second coming at the end of time, and then everyone will be judged at the white throne judgment, aka sheep and goats judgment.

The resurrection of all the dead occurs shortly before the rapture.

John 5:28-29 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forththose who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
