I have just had a clear out of my book coillection. I had about 400, and I have trimmed it down to about 150....as the Lord led me.

One I kept was the FOURTH DIMENSION by Paul Yonggi Cho.

I have read it again and it is so inspiring...it gives me renewed hope in my quest for answered prayer.

I know he is not everyones bag, and some have even said he teaches new age stuff...but for me..its hit the spot.

I think its a GREAT book. He uses bibilical principles and passages throughout.

He is a man of GREAT faith. He gives us all hope in what God can do when we FULLY trust in him.

So many of us believers need answers to life's problems, but we need to get into the word and seek the face of the Lord for ourselves and get our own revelation. It takes time, but its worth it in the end. As he prunes me, I know he's after 100% commitment, I'm getting there, I feel it in my Spirit. I know I'm in preparation, I await the green light..I'm brooding.

But its time to get a hold of God like never before.:)

Paul Yonggi Cho, whose new name is David Yonngi Cho, is a pastor of the world’s largest church, located in Seoul, South Korea. He has claimed that he had received his call to preach from Jesus Christ Himself, who appeared to him dressed like a fireman.

Cho has packaged his faith formulas under the label of "fourth dimensional power", which is no more than Christian occultism, arguing that if Buddhists and Yoga practitioners can accomplish their objectives through "fourth dimensional powers", then Christians should be able to accomplish much more by using the same means. Not Biblical!

He changed his name from Paul to David, because he claims that God showed him that Paul Cho had to die and David Cho was to be resurrected in his place. Cho claims that God Himself chose his new name.

Therefore, my dear POME brother, don't get caught up with the "fourth dimensional power", which is the same as a power source called "The Latent Power" by Watchman Nee. It's all darkness!

Sorry, to be such a party pooper, mate.:)

I'm not surprised by your answer mate - I expected it !

I know you like Watchman Nee in general, so its good to see you mention him in the negative sense, if you please. Its shows we must keep the meat and throw the bones.

respect anyhow !;)

Mate, it's not really what I think, it's what HE puts on my heart.

All writers put much truth in their writings, but they always miss the ending.

As I said, keep away from the fourth dimension, and the latent power.

Blessings!

From what I read (Cho & the fourth dimension) he is against this "soulish" latent power (that watchman nee writes about) as well - he acknowledges that.

He states that what he believes in and practices is via the Holy Spirit and has nothing to do with the "dark side" of human power.

I think you might disagree.

I love that book! I did a book report on it for my School of Leaders course. It was tremendous! I made a vow to read it every February. I forgot! Thank you for reminding me!

Yes, now is the time to get hold of God and His precious promises for us like NEVER before!

I thought this stuff was interesting reading:

Chapter 2 The 4th Dimension mentions that in the Orient there are many healers, much evil. The human spirit (subconscious/inner man) can meditate, incubate, brood, or visualize in the 4th spiritual dimension and heal in the 3rd human dimension. Additionally the human spirit can join forces with the evil spirit or the Holy Spirit, believes Cho. This would be true in yoga, Buddhism, and Japanese Sokagakkaism, where demons are enlisted (knowingly or unknowingly) to remove medical problems...Cho contends that imagination/dreams/ visions are the language of the spirit world. (Let ours be the language of the Holy Spirit, rather than the evil spirit! Be reminded, Satan is a copycat; but his work is always inferior.)

Cho, David Yonggi The Holy Spirit My Senior Partner

Subtitle Understanding the Holy Spirit & His Gifts - including author's personal testimony

Chapter 7 Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit - seeking and ministering warnings

1- "People who've asked amiss have sometimes received a different spirit, such as the spirit of covetousness, rather than the Holy Spirit."

2- A "pessimistic and inclined to keep a dark solitude in his or her heart...type of person...so long oppressed unwittingly by a negative spirit" who "tries to pray hastily for the Spirit of God without first completely cleansing himself of that negative spirit...can fall into agony and be overtaken by another morbid spirit."

3- "A long continuing sickness which wears away the body is often followed by the oppression of the devil. Those who are weak both in mind and body, having been harassed by sickness a long time, should be cleansed by the precious blood of Jesus again; if they are inclined to be oppressed by the devil, when they pray earnestly to receive the Holy Spirit, they could be oppressed again by the devil."
Acts 10:38 KJV God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power, Who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.
"I have almost always been hindered by the devil when I prayed with those weak in mind and body to receive the Holy Spirit (baptism). Knowing this, people who have been oppressed by Satan should pray to receive the Holy Spirit, laying special claim to the precious blood of Jesus."

4- Those persons who served the devil long before they came to the Lord should be especially careful...(First) they should bury (terminate/reject/renounce) all the past relationships with had with the devil, repent of their sins fully, and have the victory all believers can have over the devil." As some individuals "may still be vulnerable subconsciously (to demonic oppression) if they open their hearts," cover with the blood of Christ and enlist the Holy Spirit to protect/minister to/heal the subconscious.

5- Never in zeal to receive the Holy Spirit "permit just anyone to lay hands on them (or self) in prayer. An evil spirit, like an epidemic, is very contagious. I have seen numerous people taken by unclean spirits when someone with evil spirits laid hands on them. When they were seized by that spirit they experienced terrible suffering until they received deliverance...Always be sure that the person who is going to lay hands on them is a person full of the Spirit of truth."

6- Be wary of going alone to a mountain or a cave for prayer." Trying to imitate a person of great faith may backfire if one is not bold and becomes frightened and oppressed by evil spirits who love to take advantage of moments of fear.

It all sounds - especially the first bit - pretty complicated.

Dr. Cho is wise in explaing the dangers inherent in dealing with the demonic. It doesn't do any good telling people to stay away from him--he teaches the truth. His experience is valuable...he doesn't advocate "dabbling". He advocates living by real faith, and recognizing the tactics of the enemy that both subtly and overtly seek to hold us back from it. He advocates living the Kingdom life!

Well I know one thing.

If it wasn't for getting the "rhema" in my Sprit concerning my dad..he would not have lived the bonus 13 years he did.

This is such a personal thing.

I'm getting to the stage where I'll end up throwing all my books out and simply stick with the word and get my own revelation.

Its for the best methinks - and I'll end up doing it.;)

THE BOOK REVIEW - to be totally fair and un-biased.

For those familiar with the ministry of Pastor Yonggi Cho, who leads the world's largest church--now with over 840,000 members, reading the Fourth Dimension produces the classic, "Oh...now I get it!" When the author wrote this book, his church was blossoming at 50,000. Then, in the early 1980s controversy came. Some pastors who attempted to use his church growth methods failed. Instead of seeking God's faith, they concluded that Cho must have compromised his faith, watered-down the gospel, or used tainted secular methods to achieve a supposedly shallow success. The situation became so painful, that the Yoido Full Gospel Church had to withdraw from its home denomination for a season. Then, as a perversion of classic faith teaching, some immature pastors began teaching a truncated "prosperity gospel." Of course, Cho's enemies accused him of being in the same league. The past quarter of a century has proven the sincerity and authenticity of Yonggi Cho's leadership and teachings. His denomination reconciled with him, and he continued to grow exponentially, while always remaining a humble leader who preaches simple, yet hard-won truths that are biblical, Spirit-anointed, and practical. Perhaps the greatest key--as readers will discover--is that Cho's teachings find their best illustrations in this pastor's own life experiences.

The key message to the Fourth Dimension is that faith is nourished by hearing the word of God, it is developed by practiced application, and it is transformed into reality by the sovereign witness of the Holy Spirit. In other words, you reap God's promises by praying through to the place of hearing God's "Yes!" "Name it and claim it" is only true if we name what God has given us, and we grasp with certainty what the Holy Spirit whispers is ours. The faith Cho writes of is humble in its submission to God, but bold and confident in its certitude that what God says is so!

A definite buy recommendation--more so now, perhaps, then when it was initially published some 27 years ago! :)

and another.

1. Is this an in-depth presentation
In the Fourth Dimension, Yonggi Cho introduces the reader to the dimension of the Spirit. This book is written for the `beginner' and covers six different aspects of the fourth dimension. The book is written at a level of detail that would give the reader a good `working' knowledge of the dimension of spirit. That being said, it is interesting to me that Christians often find the presentation hard to understand and in some cases the book is viewed as dangerous and bordering on New Age philosophy! This could indicate that even though the topic is discussed at an introductory level a certain level of spiritual maturity is required to appropriately integrate the information in the book into one's spiritual life.

2. To what extent does the author address current situations
The Fourth Dimension is a very practical book. It addresses age old questions like how can I achieve personal success and how can I minister effectively. It pulls back the curtain and teaches the reader what is happening behind the scenes, in the spiritual world. In this way the reader is empowered to align himself with the ways of the spiritual world.

3. Was there any new information
This is the third time that I've read the Fourth Dimension and this time there was one particular teaching that really spoke to me. Yonggi Cho explains that we are the creators of our own salvation by speaking the Word of Faith. Don't misunderstand me. Jesus achieved EVERYTHING on the cross, but Yonggi Cho teaches that without the spoken Word of Faith the free gift of salvation remains a gift UNWRAPPED!! We unwrap this gift by speaking out and acting on what God has deposited in our hearts.
Something else that I found valuable was that Yonggi Cho instructs the reader to read the bible to build up his faith. I have always been inclined to read the bible to search out more legalistic rules for living, so when I read that we should be studying the bible to renew our thinking life it was like a revelation to me. My bible reading has been changed forever.

4. What impact did the book have on me
The Fourth Dimension has changed me. It has changed my prayer life in the sense that I now pray with the aid of mental pictures. I also expect God to be moving on my behalf and acting on my prayers. It has taught me that I am a co-worker with God, made in His image and that He expects me to move in miracles and resurrection power.

5. Any other positive or negative perceptions
The Fourth Dimension is a dangerous book. People that lust after power will especially find this book tempting. The temptation is to think that one can move by the power of faith on one's own steam and that God can be left behind. When this happens the person will automatically attract demonic forces and will start dabbling in sorcery and witchcraft. Is it any wonder then that God says that rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft. The safeguard is obedience and submission to the authority of God. :)

Had met Yonggicho in person, he is a person who really had known God, he is not a weird, dangerous guy at all, the impression I got of him is that he trust God, he talk about God with so much respect, love and trust that it makes me to want to spend more time with God...

Lately I have been praying that the Holy Spirit will grant me discernment in this spiritually wicked age so I appreciate your post.

I love Watchman Nee's book The Spiritual Man and I just read online The Latent Power of the Soul. However, even though he acknowledges the truth of miracles and the supernatural in the Christian experience at least in this piece of writing he seems to dismiss all supernatural phenomena within the Christian realm as soulish or at least suspect. There are no clear guide lines given. I do recognize that man can move in his own strength to do things for God but we could just generally accuse anyone of that. How do you know? It can't be a nebulous feeling as these are also dismissed as soulish. How can we judge the attitude of a mans heart as he ministers. There have been many whose style I did not feel comfortable with but who had God's gifts operating in their ministries with great effectiveness.
The book states:

"Very often in meetings Christians can sense a sort of power pressing in on them, or even at times of prayer and Bible reading they may feel oppressed without any reason. All these come from Satan who uses psychic forces to depress us or to assault us. Experienced Christians all over the world are aware of the especially severe attacks of the enemy at the end of this age. Since the whole atmosphere of the world seems to be heavily charged with psychic force, we need to hide ourselves under the Lord's precious blood and be protected by it."

I am not sure what Brother Nee means here as he does not illustrate what he means by oppression. Of course Satan can cause fear and doubt and creepy feelings or anger or aversion to the gospel message being preached and this is resisted by the the believer through the Word and the blood of Jesus.

Here is my experience:

I was a "believer" baptized in the church at age 13. However as a teenager of 16 or 17 I personally felt and resisted the compelling urging work of the Holy Spirit in my life in gospel meetings during alter calls. It manifested as a heavy burning and physical aching in my chest. I always resisted it and of course would feel better when the meeting was over. I always justified myself saying "But I am a Chrisitan I did all this years ago I am ok it is just emotion." This was not the enemy but the Lord trying to urge me to come forward for prayer and repentance. It wasn't until many years later as a 23 year old that I truly yielded to the Holy Spirit.

So although I respect his call to be aware of walking in the flesh as the Bible would call it I find it a bit confusing trying to understand what he sees as Walking in the Spirit. As for Cho's book I read it once but never really felt compelled to dig further into it as I was already having issues with WOF doctrine at the time.

The other thing that concerned me was his comment about Bible Study

There is the danger of expressing the latent power of the soul even in studying the Bible. For instance, someone is puzzled over a certain passage of Scripture. He does not understand what it means. So he constantly thinks about it, whether walking on the road or sleeping in his bed or sitting in his study or riding on the train. Suddenly a flash of light shines on him; he now seems to be able to expound that passage to himself logically.

This seems to negate where the Bible urge us to meditate or chew on the word of God to recieive wisdom?

Psa 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search
Psa 119:27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.

And many more... just write meditate in Blue letter Bible word or phrase search.

Peace gratefulgrace

Here is my book report on The Fourth Dimension:

1. What is the main message of the book?

The Fourth Dimension’s message is one of intensive encouragement for believers to come up higher in their faith walk. Dr. Cho points out major barriers to faith that "works", which include mind matters, and erroneous faith, and sin areas that harbour in us. He teaches us about really knowing and communicating intimately with the Father and realizing the inheritance of power resources that we have flowing through us by virtue of simply being a child of the King.

2. Please provide a short summary of each chapter.

Chapter 1 – Incubation: A Law of Faith

The incubation of faith entails the fostering of it so that it gives birth. First, I need a clear objective, a goal. Then I need to ask God for that burning desire to see that vision. Next, pray! Pray until I have the assurance that, yes! I shall have that which I see, even before I "see" it! Then, speak out of that assurance – even so far as commanding with the authority the Holy Spirit gives me, and it shall come to pass.

Chapter 2 – The fourth dimension

The spirit in us (The Holy Spirit in us King’s kids!) is the fourth dimension in us. We possess it. The language of that dimension is in envisioning and dreaming. Take hold of a vision, meditating in prayer over it, speaking of it as accomplished, walking in it as received, and the Holy Spirit is free, then, to work it out for God’s glory. It is, "seeing those things that are not as though they were" in action!

Chapter 3 – The Creative power of the spoken word

The spoken word can create a successful personal life, can be used to bring about God’s purposes, and releases the Presence of Christ into any situation. As the Holy Spirit controls, I may speak boldly, enabling Him to move forth, creating what the words speak.

Chapter 4 – Rhema

Rhema: the specific word of God to a specific situation or issue and person. There are 5 steps to receiving Rhema:
1. Wait on the Lord’s guidance, praying and fasting if necessary.
2. Ask God for the "divine desire" which the Holy Spirit deposits.
3. Check against scripture. Does my desire line up with the Word of God?
4. Ask God for a "signal". Albeit it may be very small, God will give a sure sign in the natural, which will serve as an indicator that this is right.
5. Pray and wait on God’s timing. Peace is the green light to go ahead.

Chapter 5 – The School of Andrew

We need to undergo a lifelong process of the renewal of our minds as believers, if we are going to receive and act on the rhema and live powerfully creative and effective lives for the King!
Faith comes by hearing, and our thoughts need to line up with God’s thoughts in a matter. Faith needs to co-operate with His thoughts. Three ways to change our minds to renewal mode are:
1.
Think positively.

2.
Train myself to "see" the "impossible" done in Christ.

3. Train my mind to think only in terms of abundance and success: God never loses and God has an abundance of everything!

Chapter 6 – God’s Address

This chapter is a recap, retelling of the need to tap into the Holy Spirit to gain access to His resources to change things and bring about influential, successful and abundant living. Dr. Cho points out 4 sins of the flesh that serve as major blocks that impede the flow of the Holy spirit’s power in us:
1.
Hatred: Forgiveness is paramount.
2.
Fear: negative faith, based on environment and/or circumstances, and renouncing is necessary.
3.
Inferiority complex: result of life experiences that, in the natural, cause pessimism and depression. The Holy Spirit is up for the challenge to impart faith and confidence by revelations of God’s greatness!
4. Guilt: People need to be reassured of their worthiness in their forgiven state.
Dr Cho tells of how He was used by God to bring healing to people through his own words of faith in God, and he himself tapping into the marvelous pool of resources made available to him!

3. Please describe in your own words a single thought or principle from this book that was most meaningful to you.

The most meaningful portion of the book comes from the section on the Spoken word. It has been an important lesson for me and I have been steadily learning to apply it over the past 4 years or thereabouts. There were so many lies I spoke to myself about me that I had always believed were my own thoughts, but have come to realize that they were planted thoughts of Satan. The passage in this book where Dr. Cho had met with a neurosurgeon was revelatory. When the surgeon related to him of a new discovery about the mapping of the human brain and how they have just learned that the nerve networks are ruled by the speech center, I had a major "wow!" moment!

I am working with the Holy Spirit to revamp my language, both verbal and inner speech, to comply with the Word of God and what He says about me. I have already passed this information onto my cell, and will be teaching more and more on these wonderful truths. It is especially important, I believe, for women to have this truth down pat in their early walk with God!

4. Please detail your plan for applying the principles learned from this book in your life.

As I have previously stated, I am amending my use of the tongue in the way I communicate about me and about my circumstances. I am taking on a positive stance in attitude of mind FIRST, not later! In remembering Andrew and his possibility thinking, I am eager to adopt his ways. He presented Jesus with the resources, meager thought they were, for Jesus to use for His own purposes and glory. He doubted, yes, but he went forward anyway!

As long as my desires and dreams are in line with God’s Word, and I am prayerful about them, I am free to speak them, allowing the Holy Spirit to put into action the creative elements to bring them to pass.

I have already done it and God has been awesome in answering and bringing it about. Just yesterday, I was people watching. I asked God to show me who needed His touch and for what. I was thinking perhaps God was going to give me a vision of demons on some people! I was in a bad part of town sitting in my car! Well, immediately, I saw a woman walking, very downtrodden-looking, and I had this knowledge that she needed hope. So, I prayed that God would reveal to her His hope. Next a man was fastidiously gassing his fancy Ford pick-up truck at the gas station across the street. I prayed that he would learn that he loves material things far too much and he is idolizing his possessions. (He was really being overly fastidious!) The next person was a man about 50, dark, dressed in all black, and looked very life-worn. He walked past me and I thought he was headed for the bar, but he went by. I asked God to help him turn back, and turn his life around. Two minutes later, I see him coming out from behind that gas station! He had doubled back on his course of walking and was now walking back the other way! I began to laugh! I knew I was praying for these people in the spiritual, and God was assuring me by causing the natural to respond, that He is hearing and acting! What power we have in us and through us in the Person of the Holy Spirit! Amen!
