Yeah, I was pretty stoked at the announcement. It's nice to have an announcement, instead of just speculation, and a release date. My friend heard from someone that they were supposed to be releasing Fallout 4 before Elder Scrolls V, but I'm glad that's not the case. We just had two Fallouts, and I'd like a new Elder Scrolls.

I haven't heard too much about the new engine, only that there was gonna be a new one, but the new one sounds nice. From what I saw from Rage, it looks great.

The Elderscrolls series is by far my favorite, and I've been so stoked since this announcement (though I've read somewhere that it is on a heavily modified version of the Oblivion engine)
I didn't realize there were trailers already (though it didn't really show much). Still enough to get me really excited.

I highly doubt they would be using the Oblivion engine considering how old it is. It would be too limiting to modern gaming.

I hope they fix things like the guards systems and thieving. I love breaking into houses and stealing things, but more often than not, there was nothing worth stealing.

I agree, hopefully what I read was wrong.

I think having things set at zero value was their first mistake. Theiving was made a lot less fun in oblivion just by the bartering system as well (not to mention a shop in Anvil knowing that a wooden bowl you stole from the Imperial City Waterfront was "hot"). Buy/sell in morrowind was much better (in my opinion) because you could actually trade items for items rather than having to work solely off of a merchants limited stash of gold. Honestly I hope they go back to morrowind for at least that aspect of the game.

Also it looks like it's going to be M rated again. One of the things I didn't like about oblivion is that it was made as a teen game and then got rated M. As a result shivering isles sort of threw any semblance of teen out the window and created a jarring contrast. I just went to the elder scrolls web page and they made me type in my birthday, which generally means that the game in question is going to be M rated, hopefully this means the content will be a little more refined than SI.

I actually have an earlier copy of Oblivion that has the T rating still on it. I think it was stupid to give it an M rating in the first place. If I remember right, they only made it M when they found out about the naked mod which obviously could only be used for the PC version. Other than a tiny bit of blood and certain disturbing elements(like the final quest for the Dark Brotherhood) the game felt very much like a T rated game.

So do I actually. I usually don't buy things right on release, but now I feel like I've got a collectors piece.

They discovered that on the game disc there was a mesh that the developers had used to model the body before adding a bra. A modder then took the mesh and textured it themselves and ESRB considered this "unlockable content" similar to the hot coffee fiasco with GTA. That and they claimed that they weren't aware you could adjust blood levels. I assume they meant editing the oblivion.ini files on a pc to persist blood decals and raise the maximum number of them which can actually get quite bloody because the blood decal sliders in game make such little difference, but again, that's a user modification. My only conclusion is that the people at ESRB are idiots.

Still that only applies to the PC version which means there's no reason to give the 360 and PS3 version the M rating.

The ESRB can be pretty facepalm worthy. Certain games obviously deserve it due to high blood content, but others(like Assassin's Creed) don't make that much sense to me. The content Assassin's Creed contained could easily be put into a movie with only a PG-13 rating(most of the blood was nothing more than a vague mist and it could be turned off). Robin Hood got a PG-13 rating and its violence level was very similar to that of the 1st Assassin's Creed. The second one was slightly more bloody, but the blood was still rather misty.

I personally hope they make this new one a little more mature than Oblivion was. I don't mind mature content in games and I personally feel it makes the game much more submersive comparing it to reality.

One thing they could improve to make it more mature is to add a "attractiveness or seduction" trait. I always found it a bit strange that it didn't matter what gender you were, people would either love you or hate you. I think what gender you choose and your character's "attractiveness" should open up new dialogue options.

That is one thing I felt the first Fable got right. I'd like to see more things like that added which will certainly bring more depth to the game.

My only fear is that it might be too similar to the Morrowind: Bloodmoon expansion. That was basically a snowy, nord/viking style land, and I always pictured Skyrim as being the Scandinavian counterpart. I just hope it's not white noise.

I'm sure they'll make it different though. I have faith in them. Oblivion blew my mind, so I have no reason to doubt them.

I would love to see a return to a lot of the morrowind UI, dialogue, and mechanics. Although I liked oblivion overall, it was a far cry from morrowind, they could stand to do a lot of back-tracking.

I believe the story is supposed to pick up right after the events of oblivion.
