The Deceiver

The devil may promise me,
a lot of things.
Yet we know from Your Word,
that the devil is the father of lies.

I may be offered love,
he may learn knowing,
of my likes and dislikes,
he may make a perfect match
for me based out on these.
But without Your love, Lord,
this will gain me nothing of worth!
And the devil,
he no longer have any of Your love in him.

I may be offered riches and popularity,
yet these are all fruitless achievements,
if Your hand is not over this.
When the devil is given control,
there will be no blessings
but only curses given.

I may be offered beauty and youth,
in this world of vanity these would be
accepted as great.
But the devil knows that this won't last forever,
and in truth, without our hearts set on You,
it won't bring us any true happiness.

The devil may have tried to mislead me in the past,
trying to lure me into a type of love.
Yet I knew it would never give me,
what was most important to me: Salvation!

Also knowing,
that this type of love.
Was only build up by empty deceit,
meant to bring me away from You Lord.

And I want to stay in the truth,
and I want to stay with You!
