With the recent uproar about the controversial views on Hell in the book "Love Wins" by Pastor Rob Bell. I was wondering what my fellow CF teens thought about this issue. What your views are your own views on Hell, what do you think about this controversial book and all the crazy things going on because of it?

here are some links to some info about all this:

I read the book the day it came out and it really was trash....

Bell has stepped entirely outside of Biblical/Orthodox Christianity and is for all intents and purposes is currently a false teacher (I don't say that lightly or commonly either).

I believe what Jesus taught about Hell. That is, anyone who does not receive Christ and believe in Him will spend eternity in conscious torment in payment of their sins.

I agree that Rob Bell is trying to spread false teachings with this new book. It goes against what God's word says. I believe that Christ is the only way to Heaven. I do believe though that we serve a just God, so that when babies/kids die they will go to heaven because they haven't really been able to make the true decision to follow God.

Sometimes the thought of the people out there in isolated places of the world who have never heard the name of Christ. It just doesn't seem to me that God would send someone who has never heard his message to eternal torment. I would say that I believe that if you have truly never heard of Christ's name that you would still go to heaven ou tof God's love. But at the same time, there are many people out there who live terrible sinful lives( stealing, lying, murdering, etc etc) that have never heard of Christ. But there has to be people like that (that have never heard of Christ) out there, who are morally good people and do the right thing, but then I think, we can't be saved by works alone.

Any opinions on that?

I think a situtation like that is where General Revelation steps in, and that men in those isolated places have nature, the heavens, and all the work of God's hands to show that there is purpose in life and an order set in creation that leads to a Creator. "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." Psalm 19:1 They also have the innate law given to humans by God to follow : "Indeed, when Gentiles who do not have the law do by nature things required by the law... they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness." Romans 2:14-15

So I wouldn't say men in isolated places out of the reach of people and witness aren't accountable for sins. They just have a different witness, being creation and the innate laws given to them.

First I would like to point out in Romans 1:20

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse"

We can see that God shows himself through the creation's He has made, his glory, power and even the Godhead, so that none are without excuse. When concerning those that have never known or heard or read the name God, I do believe that they will search for a "creator" and the Lord will show himself to such or someways around that, but remember "His ways are not our ways"! So He will see fit to those, but we all know that Jesus is "the way, the truth and the light" not a way, a truth or a light.. So it only through his death and resurrection that we are given salvation.

I would also like to point out when you said we are not based on works alone, that statement has a kinda connotation that says "we are saved by faith and works" which is directly incorrect with scripture. It is only through grace, given by the Lord himself. So even if you are a morally good person, and don't do much bad, you still must have the grace of God to be saved. It is by faith alone through grace alone that we have salvation.

I would also like to say that I believe that there is a Hell. It is for all those that reject God and do not have a relationship with Him. Those who do you not believe the resurrection and death of Jesus Christ paying for our sins. But more specifically sinners who have not been reconciled to God. And as we have seen from the Words of Jesus, that it is a real place, of real torment, and real judgement that eternally lasts. Glory Be To God!
