Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's a sin to kill anyone. But what if someone is found guilty of torturing and murdering hundreds of people (just an example)? Is giving this person the death penalty justifiable?

Yes it is.
Here is a good article on the reasoning behind Christians supporting the death penalty

Well, I believe it's wrong to take a life no matter what. However, there's also the "eye for an eye" thing.

When you kill someone, they die, and it's over for them. Their families are the ones that suffer. I don't think it's right to make someone's family endure such a pain for a crime their loved one committed. I don't even think most families of the victim's would wish that pain on the person's families. Unfortunately they don't think about that. They want vengeance; they want the person who killed their loved one to die.

Besides all of that, the reason I don't believe in capital punishment is b/c it's impossible to prove the person did the crime. Even with DNA evidence - it could have been planted, or the results tampered with. Even if the person is taped doing the crime - the tape could have been edited. Even when the person confesses - the person could have been forced; they could have mental problems. Who knows? No one knows who did it except the victim, the accused, and God.

I have faith in our justice system, but it is as flawed as the people it consists of. No one is perfect. Prosecutors only have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt, they can't prove anything w/o a doubt.

Beneath all of that, at the very base, is the main issue. I don't feel that I have a right to decide who deserves to live and who deserves to die.

Yep that's exactly how I feel about it. I mean who am I to decide? Besides I'll leave vengeance for God.

The verse is Thou Shalt Not Murder. Murder is defined as shedding the blood of the INNOCENT.

Yes it is for God to decide and he decided to give the authority to us. In this society that means juries and judges.

Whatever forum this should be in, people who commit murder, rape, torture, child molesting, etc etc should be put to death. It's a shame we save it for the truly heinous and they get to wait till they are old and gray on death row before justice is done!
