The Death of the Unreached

An adult with average mental capacity dies without hearing the gospel , he . . .

  • Will die condemned under God’s righteous judgment.

  • Will be pardoned - not held accountable for his sins.

  • Will be judged by God based upon how well the man lived consistent with his own conscious.

  • Will die, treated as I will explain in my response.

Option 3 should make reference to the man's "conscience." Maybe a kind moderator will fix it so I will look like less of a baffoon.

Please see the associated poll.

Ultimately we don't know what the deal is. However, the fact of salvation by relying on God the Savior appears to be something that covers a wide history.

Faith and regeneration preceded the Gospel of Christ in history.

Abraham, a bunch of Israelites and Judeans come to mind.

So to me, it's not personal conscience at all. It still must be through new birth and faith. But there may not be specific knowledge about Christ Jesus.

I should probably vote in my own poll. Obviously, I chose 1. I don't believe the NT leaves room for another answer.

Jn 3:18, He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The text (even within its context) does not speak directly of rejecting Christ, but of lacking faith in Him. It is not the rejection of Christ that condemns, it is sin that condemns. Only through being a believer in Christ does one receive foregiveness for his sin. It seems to me that to select another answer a person must be motivated by something other than the Scriptures.

All people chosen by God will believe. One of the reasons I side with the Calvinist's on this. The Armininian would say he is eternally damned to hell because he never made the confession of sin and profession of faith. I believe that God will make Himself know, in whatever way he desires, to draw the heart of his people. Same goes for unborn babies. According to the strict Armininian, hell has roughly 50 million extra people of it due to abortion. Those people never had a chance to confess their faith. Calvinism, on the other hand, at least gives those who are God's chosen eternal life.

/devil's advocate:

It is not Armenian, it is Arminian.

An Armenian is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia.

An Armininian is someone who sides with the Arminian understanding of salvation.
Sorry, auto correct on the Iphone, haha.

I voted #4: Will be judged by God based upon how well the man lived consistent with the divine revelation he did receive in his life (NOT simply one's conscience for it is subject to influence from other forces besides God).

This incorrectly implies that Arminians would think a person unable to hear the Gospel from the Holy Spirit and respond positively to it in utero.

So you are saying the Holy Spirit can visit an unborn child in the womb, regenerate his sinful (possibly undeveloped) heart, and make him acceptable to God? I would agree with you. However, to my knowledge, that does not conform to Armininianism.

I can't think of anything within that idea that would NOT conform to Arminianism.

It is Arminianism that states man must make a choice to follow and believe in Christ. How can an unborn baby make a choice? The brain is under developed. It's mind can not comprehend the Gospel, much less be able to make a choice to believe in it.
