  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Covenant with Abraham

A question about Genesis 15-18:-

In Genesis 15/16? God counts Abraham as righteous and then immediately following we read of God 'cutting' a covenant with him. I take this to be the covenant ceremony itself (Jeremiah 34 also describes a similar 'cutting' ceremony many years later).

In this chapter the covenant mentions a land promise for him and his descendants, etc.

Thirteen? years later God comes to Abraham at 99 years of age and says that he will establish His covenant with him etc.
We then read some more details about Abraham having to keep the covenant and instructions concerning circumcision (the covenant token).

I believe that these two mentions of covenant thirteen years apart, are simply God confirming once again to Abraham His covenant to him (which He 'cut' 13 years earlier) and that this later mention of covenant is not another covenant "established" with Abraham.
To me the repetition of God's announcement to Abraham is simply saying to him that He will keep his covenant promise even though Abraham has not yet had the son/heir which God had earlier promised.

Am I correct about this being the same covenant i.e. one covenant?

Interesting that you've mentioned the Abrahamic Covenant, before using the Scripture to Expound further, believe you already know all the Benefits?

ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

Gen 15:18 On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates--

Did Abram cut the Covenant with Almightly GOD? Who is Abram when he is just but a man? It was the Preincarnate Christ the God cutting the Covenant with GOD the Father

Gen 15:9-12, you'll see that by 'Cutting a Covenant' all the Animals have to be cut in half & the Convanent Partakers would need to walk thru them- which means that if any of them broke the Covenant, then the one whom broke it would be like or WORSE then Animals-Killed & Split in half Abraham was ASLEEP when Christ cut the Covenant with our heavenly Daddy! Which makes Christ Respnsible for a broken Covenant!

That's why Christ had to come & Split in Half suspended Between Heaven & Earth on that Cross for HE Cut the Covenant on men (In Abraham Behalf) behalf & HIS Body was Torn apart into Shreads!

Isaiah 53:5 But He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [He was] bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace [was] upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Incidentally STRIPS above in the Original Hebrew is chabbuwrah which is basically bruise, stripe, wound, blow (It's Singular! Christ Strips/ Wound/ Blow was so darn BAD that it's NOT SEPERATED meaning to say HE-Christ didn't have 1 single piece of Skin left on HIS BODY!!!) That's the severity of SINS on GOD's eyes & yet there's Christians trying to lower GOD's standards by (1) Confessing their SINS (2) Fasting & so forth like to Scribes/ Pharisees in Christ's time.

It was a Covenant of Blessing & NO Cursing regardless of the Performance of Abraham/Issac/Jacob/Joseph & best part, there wasn't any LAW nor any of them were ever REBUKE by The LORD for their countless muck-ups which are EXACTY the same 2 COMMANDMENTS Christ gave

Shalom Shalom & More Shalom ;)

And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29)

On this subject, I like this scripture the best because it makes studying Abraham much more meaningful knowing that God calls us heirs and has grafted us into His family by choice

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7)
