Yes and No, its has more advanced rendering options but the PS2 can draw more.

Yes although I suspect we are about to start seeing a shift away from photo-realistic game engines to more stylised ones, see 13, latest Zelda etc. As Photo realistic gfx is very hard to make and requires allot of resources (both code & art) while a stylised render is allot easier and gives your game a more unique look to it.

That and the first first person shooter that gets properally photo realistic is likely to be banned on the grounds that it will be far to graphic and violent.

Realistic is good, don't get me wrong. But it (the real world) is what we look at all day in a way. So we are very good at picking apart GFX engines that try to mimic it. And the resources that are required to simulate it are also very high, so I think allot of companies will use stylised versions of photo realism rather than true photo realism. But some genres like surviel horror may well put photo-realism to good use.

Its going to see what happens once we get to the photo realistic stage in games as its been a goal for the industry for so long that I don't know if many people have thought about what to do once its been achieved. I think we will ge back to basics in a way with more of a focus on gameplay and game AI to make games more enjoyable instead of an eye candy compition that they currently are.

(As a side topic) How much money could I get if I sold my Nintendo 64 (i got two of them, so its no problem to sell one) with a controller? (On Topic)For example. The graphics on Pikmin are awesome, they are wonderfully done! But one mishap is the time limit, I'm guessing this is due to the graphics engine (which is by far, one of the fastest) The sound is very nicely done as well. The gameplay is more of a "figure-it out MEETS no-blood fighting". But still really good to play. I just hope that Pikmin 2 is way longer. I heard it will have 2 player compability!

YAY!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!! I JUST BOUGHT MY GAMECUBE TODAY! And it was only $89 used with a controller. My friend (being the good christian friend he is, gave me Spiderman and Mario Sunshine) I just got him into Pikmin, but hopefully I'll be able to buy a new memory card, a new controller (for my sis) and Pikmin!

ziggackslam I doubt the gfx engine would have anything to do with the time limit. More likely it was a gameplay design issue.

RazorX I hope that was a joke! 20 million - 6 million = 14 million units in PS2's favour. But thats just for this round, if the next generation of consoles are released about the same time next time we will get a much better idea which is a better console instead of the PS2 hhaving a two year lead on everything else.

Although I think the GBA is still in lead based on number of units sold funny how the simplest and lest powerfull units do so well.

Well...let's see.

Nintendo is known for its excellent durability (especially the handheld stuff) and has wonderful franchises such as Mario and Zelda. (the only reason I'd get a GC).

PS2 has some great RPGs and DVD compatibility (GC's biggest downfall).

Xbox can play DVDs, plus Fable looks sooo cool.

Playstation 2 has some very good games and can run Qcast Tuner. I like the XBox for the modding possibilities but there are very few games that I like that are not available on another console or the PC.

I voted for the Gamecube because I am a sucker for Nintendo's first-party titles like Mario & Zelda. They do cool things with GBA interoperability as well, which appeals to my techno-gadget geeky side. The Gamecube gets knocked for catering to younger audiences ("lol gaemcube is for kids lol") but that's one of the reasons I like it- I can feel comfortable sitting down and playing pretty much any 1st party Nintendo game with my younger siblings (or my own kids in the future) and not have to worry about objectionable content.

This months issue of Xbox Magazine talks about how they are #1 in sales now.

The magazine out sells all other magazine, even more than Playstation Magazine.
In it the editor stated reason for it, is because xbox is for the hard core gamer who is very competitive and serious about games.

Xbox is definitly stepping up in the ranks, it has a ways to go before it can bump off playstation if they can, but they are moving forward.

PC? Yes.

To me, Xbox is useless. It's basically a broken computer. Halo? Coming to PC. Any other games worth mentioning? Not really.

Everyone already has a PS2, and the only thing I'd be interested in are Square's vonderful games. Even then, FFXI = coming to PC.

And the 'cube. Normally, I'd say yay for Zelda and Metroid. This time around, they don't seem as appealing as usual...

I HATE XBOX, i turned mine on about a week ago and out of no where its not working and making awful noises. so i call the support line- well i have two options. i can pay 150+ to ship it to them to fix or I can buy a new one. i also looked up prices to fix it myself and well thats the more expensive option this time.

I think the best one is whichever one works

personally i would choose the PS2, but that's cause i think the franchise will outlast or run along with the pc as a consistant system. however, my friend pointed out to me that even though PS2 may have a **** load more games and such, Microsoft has got the green, and they could easily keep xbox running even if they weren't popular, but for some wierd reason people buy the system....

but when i do play games i only have a PC, though i would prefer them all to be on a mac, that's a whole other thread, which i am to lazy to start.
