There were two mutually exclusive groups, the elect and the hardened.

Mark 13:

20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect [G1588], whom he chose, he shortened the days.

God chose the elect to be saved.

God elects us to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient. The elect are God's chosen people.

On what basis do you think God elects? Is it random?

It is not random. A random selection will not guarantee the elect will be kind people. It is based on divine omniscience. Ro 8:

29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.

We first choose Him, then He will in turn choose us and therefore become one of His elect.

Tony if those days were not shorten "nobody would be saved" but for the sake of the elect whom He has chosen He has shortened {them}.

We that believe in Christ are the elect this is clear. Yet we read if those days were not shorten nobody would be saved elect or not. For God so loved the world. He loved this world He came for the unrighteous, the wicked He came for all. That message is not intended for just some He already picked. We all have a free choice. That call by the sweet sweet holy Sprit goes to ALL not just a few but all. PRAISE GOD GLORY TO JESUS most are blind. Well my bother whos JESUS whos TRUTH are we talking about? Which one is GOD going to hold them accountable to? What you say and believe? If we don't follow you believe what you believe are we lost? He said if you were blind you would have no sin you say you see your sin remains. Most are blind. Most look up and around and say.. I want that God.. saved. Who ever not some people but who ever calls on the name of the lord shall be saved.
