Hebrews 12:
22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God,
the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,
23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered
in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect.
The special relationship of the firstborn revealed through the Son
in God's plan was first manifested with the Passover.
Exodus 13:1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb
among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”
A Memorial was established acknowledging this Instruction, referred
to as the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
3 And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage, for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place.
No leavened bread shall be eaten.
4 On this day you are going out, in the month Abib.
5 And it shall be, when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites
and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites,
which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey,
that you shall keep this service in this month.
6 Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day
there shall be a feast to the Lord.
The sanctification of the firstborn was transferred to the tribe of Levi,
when they were chosen to serve the Sanctuary.
Numbers 3:
11 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
12 “Now behold, I Myself have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel
instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel.
Therefore, the Levites shall be Mine,
13 because all the firstborn are Mine. On the day that I struck all the firstborn
in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel,
both man and beast. They shall be Mine: I am the Lord.”
Thus, a quantitative relationship was established between the priesthood
and the firstborn males in Israel of natural childbirth.
