The Cascade Mountains are very cold in the wintertime. One winter is was so cold the news said all the Elk died. There was nothing for my dad to go and hunt. When we exhaled we could see our breath in the air.

If you live in Washington State like I do you'd probably know which mountain range I am talking about (it has Mount Hood and Mount Saint Helens, ledgendary for its erruption in the 1980s), but if you don't live here in the West, then probably not, nope.

I can see a huge, white mountain raising up to touch the sky every time I get out of bed in the morning. It has a flat top, so I think its Saint Helens.

Mother took me up to the Mount Saint Helens Visitor Center a couple of times, its a few hours away from us. She drove up the whole mountain, it was so high above the earth I felt like I could reach my hand out and touch an airplane!

I remember seeing a chipmunk sitting on a rock and sunning itself (Golden-Manted Cascade Ground Squirrel?). It was so cute and adorable, I just wanted it for a pet but when I lurched myself out to get it, it stuffed a few nuts in its mouth (Chipmunks are funny) and dashed away from me.
