  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, what's your honest opinion on the Obama team bashing Joe the Plumber, and smearing his name?

Do you think he deserved to have this happen to him, for asking a simple question that wasn't really answered to begin with?

Lets discuss every aspect of the Campaign trail, right here in this thread. :D

I believe it was Obama who was asked the question by Joe the Plumber...
And didn't really answer him.

And THEN, Joe Biden started ragging on him today during a rally.
McCain was standing up for him. Have you watched the news today?

I watch the news every day, read the news paper, and read the e-news. You're right that Obama was asked a question by Samuel W. However, he would have remained an anonymous citizen if McCain had not brought him up, placing this squarely on McCain. Do you know how many people have asked the candidates questions in the last year without being dragged into the media spot light. a

AND Joe Biden started "ragging" on him because he was lying. He's not a certified plumber, the business he wants to buy is not currently making a quarter of a million dollars, Joe the plumber is in trouble for tax evasion, etc. If I were into conspiracy theories, I would say that Joe the plumber was a republican plant, but from listening to him talk on the news, he has EXTREME liberal leanings except for when it comes to his hypothetical business and money.

? Who is the man and when he came to ask a question, why was this all so important that the republican party seized their chance to -once again..over dramatize everything? I just have this feeling,Joe was planted there also. I am very tired of the 'maverick' term. I am also fed up with Palin on the campaign trail in her entourage of fans that seem to not realize her real quest. The White House. She has a huge ego here.

I agree with a lot of what you said, apart from what I've bolded. Which I agree with but would like to comment on.
But on the Democrat side, even if I agree on some of her policies, Sen. Clinton can come off as just as much of an oppurtunistic egomaniac. Especially in her comments towards Sen. Obama during the primaries and the rallies before Obama was nominated.

I'm not a fan of Gov. Palin by any means, but my complaints against her haven't been due to a perceived sense that she's self-absorbed, but that she really doesn't have a lot of experience. She's a beautiful woman, and she's cutesy, but she is in no way ready to handle governing an entire nation. And given Sen. McCain's age, if he does win, who he's chosen as his sucsessor has to be a very legitimate issue.

sorry, in this day and age you have to be a self-absorbed, opportunistic egomaniac to want to be President...

Obama is, McCain is, Biden is, Palin is, Paul is, Nader is, Clinton is, everyone is...

Opinion or an impression of who is egotistical is varied.

I'd agree Biden has been pretty notorious for coming off like a blowhard, as has Clinton and Palin.
But I wouldn't say I agree on the Sen. McCain or Sen. Obama front. I quite like both; McCain's policies are what I take issue with.

I wouldn't vote for either candidate. I think Obama has delusions over what constitutes effective economic policy, and McCain I have no faith in. Bush talked about fiscal responsibility and limited government as well, and he delivered the opposite. Why should i believe McCain would be different?

my statement has nothing to do with my impressions of how they ahve acted publically...

Rather it has to do with my impression of the office of the Presidency and the kind of person who would willingly put themselves, thier families, and anyone who has ever known them under that type of scrutiny and attack...

So, it's an impression you have of politics in general. Really, that's no different than judging a singular politician on how they've carried themselves publicly.

But in regards to the second comment, one could in fact argue that politices or one who runs for federal office for Prime Minister or for President or whichever position one wishes to focus on, is perhaps more self-less in their motivations than the average Joe. Maybe one person's view of politicians who run for the White House is a person who wants glory and fame. By contrast, one could also argue than sacrificing maybe, a bit of personal safety in the case of Obama for the greater good of a nation, is not egotistical, but something much different.

But considering one can only judge their perceived motivations from the outside, declaring a politician egotistical based on a notion that politics is a dirty business or a means to get rich or similar is a bit limiting.
