These Books of Records of God, enter in the phases of Judgment, even as we see in Daniel and Revelation:

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. Daniel 7:10

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20:12

For forgiveness of our past sins, which we have in Christ Jesus, does not actually blot out the sin record, it merely covers it for a time by the blood of Jesus, until the blotting out is accomplished by Jesus.

For the blotting out is more than justification, but cleansing from sin, even as it is written, that He was to save us from our sins -

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

The blotting out of sins, did not happen at the Cross, for a certain work was there finished, but yet another work was to be entered into by Christ Jesus and completed, upon His ascension and throughout, even at a much later period specified in prophecy:

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19

And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Acts 3:20

Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. Acts 3:21

In the Day of Atonement, there was to be an entirely different atonement than found in Leviticus 4. There are multiple atonements, as we may see later, but for the moment, let us consider just the Day of Atonement itself. The sinner throughout the year, if he committed any sin, could come with a sacrifice [generally] and have those sins confessed over the substitute, slay it, and then the blood was carried into further work into the sanctuary. The sinner was 'forgiven' and free to go, but his sins remained 'stored' in the blood which was then taken into the Sanctuary. Once a year there was a total cleansing process where all sin was completely removed. Notice that the sins from the sinner were forgiven beforehand, but not totally removed from the sanctuary until this time. The peoples who sins were 'stored' in the sanctuary could still be cut off of Israel at this time.

Now to the Books of Records in Heaven:

Go with me to Matthew 18, for therein, Jesus said something very important in parable, that we also find throughout scripture, and so we shall see that though we have forgiveness of our past sins, we are to walk in the Grace of the Lord, obeying Him in Love out of that Grace, otherwise, we shall have all of those past sins, placed upon us once again. We will see that forgiveness does not erase the record of sins, but simply releases us from guilt, and the record of sins must still be dealt with.

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Matthew 18:21

Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Matthew 18:22

Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.Matthew 18:23

And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. Matthew 18:24

But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. Matthew 18:25

The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Matthew 18:26

Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. Matthew 18:27

But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. Matthew 18:28

And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Matthew 18:29

And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. Matthew 18:30

So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Matthew 18:31

Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Matthew 18:32

Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? Matthew 18:33

And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. Matthew 18:34

So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. Matthew 18:35

So Indeed, we are "forgiven" [past tense, for past sins only], and forgiveness [remission], does not blot out sins, merely covers them, until such time as they are blotted out of the books of records in Heaven. This is shown in the type of the Sanctuary service given unto us as an ensample. Please consider:

[Saying], Blessed [are] they whose
iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Romans 4:7

Also: He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us;
he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19

Notice, that the seas
do not blot out the sins, but cover them [see in scripture where waters merely cover that which is in them; "waters cover the sea" [Isaiah 11:9]].

Since covered, they [the record of them] remain still there, and are not gone, but simply buried, until removed completely by another process. Our sins are not merely to be covered, as of now, but to be removed entirely by Jesus Christ. Where did sin originate, on earth or in Heaven? In Heaven, by Lucifer. Therefore, these forgiven sins can be reinstated to our account once more if in probationary time we spit in the grace of God...

So, He [Jesus] has indeed taken away our sins [removed them from us as far as the east is from the west], and taken them upon himself. However, they are not blotted out, not gone yet. The removal of confessed and repented and forsaken sins, and transfer to the sin-bearer, leaves us free from past sins, and forgiven. We may leave the gate of the sanctuary in grace, but there was more work yet to do beyond the gate... in both directions.

If all that was necessary was simply removal of guilt, we could enter heaven now, but we must also be saved "from" sin itself [Matthew 1:21], which means we are to be cleansed from the ways of unrighteousness and transgression. If all Jesus was to do was simply remove the guilt, how would that enable us to cease from sinning? Yet most of the Christian world preaches this half-gospel. There must be more involved, as scripture gives to us, and we will find it in the Everlasting Gospel [more on this to come].

This is witnessed in
Matthew 18 and elsewhere:

Then the lord of that servant was
moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. Matthew 18:27

This debtor was loosed by the compassion of the Lord and all his
past sins were forgiven him by the Lord.

Yet, we see by the very texts in continuing, these sins, though forgiven, were
not yetblotted out, but remained for the Lord to deal with, and could be re-instated if unfaithful of the grace bestowed, or uncaring of the responsibility given in newness.

We see that "all" the "debt" was "forgiven", but because of the servants attitue and behaviour in
probationary time, failed of the grace of received.

Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant,
I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Matthew 18:32

Notice, the previous debt is re-instated to his account, in addition to that which the servant committed since then.

And his lord was wroth, and
delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. Matthew 18:34

And the wages for sin are the 2nd Death. In order to pay all, one must die and be gone forever, since we do not have life within ourselves we would never live again, even as all the wicked shall not once they are destroyed of the 2nd Death.

Confessed and repented of Sins are forgiven. That is covered by the blood, or thrown into the depth of the sea [again covered], but they are not gone, merely covered by the waves of the sea. These can be reinstated to our account.

Matthew 18:23-35, and elsewhere, like Ezekiel, etc, shares this quite well, in that sins can be forgiven, but forgiveness does not blot them out, therefore they are not totally gone, merely covered in grace until such time to be removed or reinstated, since they are reinstated upon the one that had not mercy during his probation of grace in forgiveness, this is the perfect example.

Sins are to be blotted out, even as Peter makes known in
Acts 3:19, which is a yet future occurance. That is that the sins are to be covered by the blood of the Lamb, and then through the same blood of the Lamb, Christ Jesus as our Great High Preist must of necessity accomplish His work in heaven, "It is Done.", and then the sins are totally removed, not only the guilt, but also in us, for we will abhor sin and choose to never sin again by Him in us, gone forever, and cannot be reinstated, since it is then past the time of probation, all cases decided, Luke 13:25, Daniel 12:1, Revelation 22:11, etc.

Some will of course quote a few passages that say that God forgets our sins. We may come to those individually, if any will, but notice that I may choose to forget something, but have it written down elsewhere. Is it then totally gone? What then if I also remove that which is written? Then it is totally gone.
