I'm reading Job right now and some interesting questions popped up. In the translation I am reading through (NAS) in 1:6 it states that "there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves.....and Satan also came among them."

In my notes it states that the "sons" are to interpreted as angels. Now I'm sure there many other people that have wondered about this as well, and I'm sure this is the basis for the debate on whether Jesus and Satan are brothers, but what if God has more than one Son. I'm just thinking hypothetically here and wanted to see some other opinions. Now we can assume that this is after the fact that Satan "falls" with a 1/3 of the angels since it states in 1:7 that he came "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."

How was Satan able to be in the presence of God, and for that matter even in His dwelling place? I've read over this many times and have wondered about this alot, no commentary's or notes ever go into this matter.

cheers.

Well, I believe that the Book of Job takes place before Satan fell from Heaven, so he could be in God's pressence, because he lived there. The "roaming about on the earth and walking around on it" doesn't nessessarily (spelling?) mean it happens after the events of Revelation 12. I've heard some that believe that Satan falling with 1/3 of the Angels was a sort of "flashback" scene John describes. I've also heard some that think it takes place in the middle of the Tribulation. And I've heard some that think Satan's fall in Revelation 12 was symbolic.

So, I guess it just depends on how you interpert the the passage about Satan being hurled to earth.

First, remember that Jesus is specifically referred to as the "ONLY begotten son" - Jesus' status as "Son of God" is a unique one, otherwise the Scripture calling Him the "only" son is a lie. Sure, angels and people can be referred to as "sons of God", but it's an entirely different sense of the term. Jesus is the Creator, angels are the created; therefore, an angel (the devil) and Jesus can not be "brothers" as the Mormons suggest.

How can the devil have access to God? Because God allows it - He has the authority. The devil was "cast out" in the sense that he was "officially expelled", meaning it isn't his natural home anymore, and he is considered an "outcast", but he can still be there at times. Revelation mentions Satan accusing people "before God" - he can still be in God's presence at times. Think of it as being excommunicated from church - you are kicked out of the congregation, but you can still physically walk into the building; same type of thing with Satan's expulsion.
