Soo I'm pretty sure there is a few Art fans on here, so let's talk about it!

Who are some of your favorite artists? What type of art do you like?

Have you ever been to a museum and what are some museums you'd love to visit but haven't had a chance to?

Also post some of your favorite art pieces! Maybe it'll introduce another member to their new favorite piece or artist. :)

What do you like about Matta's work? What speaks to you? :)

If I were an artist, I would want to paint what he painted. He is the kid of the surrealist group. I'm not a fan of Dali, but I love Dali's technique of taking the Dutch masters with modern work. I swear he had OCD. Maybe that is why I like Matta; his work is so free flowing--more than anything I can imagine trying. Matta I think expressed the surrealists expression the best. Matta leaves room for the viewer's imagination to see what he or she sees in the painting. I think that is why I like modern art so much. Many abstract artists expect a lot of work from the viewer. What do you see? What do you feel? I'm a fan of Kandinsky because his work is more like music visualized than anything I've ever seen. Kandinsky's theory is pretty explicit in that he expects visual music from the viewer. Rothko is cool when understood as a kind of atmosphere. For pure emotion I have to have Chagall. It moves me inside.

My favorite type of art is Impressionism and Realism. :)

My favorite painter is Edgar Degas!

I love impressionism because it's how it makes you feel and less about the actual painting. A lot of his paintings make me have memories and make me think of a person or a place and it's not what's in the painting at all.

I do also love realism because the object in the painting makes you feel something. The focal point in the painting is something real that you can almost touch. :)

I like the Italian masters from the Renaissance the best. I love how they captured the intense emotion and often anguish of their subjects. I've spent time in the Vatican Museum and National Art Gallery in London. I'd say my favorite works of art were some of the sculptures by Michelangelo. His statues of David and La Pieta were incredible. It amazes me how much feeling can emanate from a piece of marble:)

This one seems so real that it kind of makes me shiver. It looks so cold, and I can imagine the quietness outside and how the deer sound when they walk. :D

There's a guy that's gone on to be with the Lord now, but he built an art museum that's a few dozen miles from my city. He's name is Howard Finster. I've been to the city where it's located, but I've never toured his musuem. I think this thread is inspiring me to take a trip and go see it finally. In addition to Christian art, he also did work for secular artists too.

Oh that's beautiful! I love animal paintings and drawings! Your daughter is fantastic.

I love the boxer one, definitely my favorite.

Thank you, that's sweet of you to say. She's always been a talented artist in all mediums and was just messing around with some animal sketches when someone asked if she would do a picture of their dog.

I shared it on another forum and they asked if she would do a drawing of their family pet and would be willing to pay her. I forwarded the information and now, a few months later, she has a little business doing portraits for people of their pets.

She's a stay at home mom in Japan since her husband is stationed there with the Air Force and the portraits provide them some extra income.

That is so awesome! :D

I'm glad she is bringing joy to other peoples lives while making a good life for her own! I know it is probably a very rewarding experience being able to do that for people.
