After the fall, God had to teach man how to distinguish what is acceptable from what is unacceptable. The fact that something could be declared holy in an unholy world shows that God intended to be involved with man every step of the way.
Genesis 9:
3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.
4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
5 Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it,
and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man.
6 Whoever sheds man’s blood,
By man his blood shall be shed;
For in the image of God
He made man.
7 And as for you, be fruitful and multiply;
Bring forth abundantly in the earth
And multiply in it.
This became the role of the Levitical Priesthood
A right and wrong time to consume alcohol, and the sanctity of being teachers for the people.
Leviticus 10:8 Then the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying:
9 “Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting,
lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations,
10 that you may distinguish between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean,
11 and that you may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the Lord has spoken to them by the hand of Moses.
In short, every trespass of man becomes a "teaching moment" for the Spirit of the Lord,
even as it is today with the Lord's discipline by His Indwelling Spirit.
Leviticus 11:
46 This is the law of the animals and the birds and every living creature that moves in the waters,
and of every creature that creeps on the earth,
47 to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, and between the animal that may be eaten
and the animal that may not be eaten.
Malachi 2:7 For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge,
And people should seek the law from his mouth;
For he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
To protect the Land of Promise
Leviticus 20:
24 But I have said to you, “You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess,
a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from the peoples.
25 You shall therefore distinguish between clean animals and unclean, between unclean birds and clean,
and you shall not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or by any kind of living thing that
creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
26 And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples,
that you should be Mine.
To be separate from the people by a Law is now established in an abiding Spirit.
Hebrews 5:
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses
exercised to discern both good and evil.
Being separate from the world begins with what we consume from among many unclean options.
This is evident by the first commands given to the Gentiles in Acts 15, and reflects the command to Noah.
