  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

OK, so today I went and got my textbook list. I don't want to buy them from the school bookstore, so do you experienced college kids have any websites that you recommend to get good and cheap textbooks from?

I've been searching Amazon, and I'm a bit skeptical of the books that you can buy used for like $4 when buying it new costs $60. Is it as good as it sounds?

Thanks!

make sure to find out the condition of the used book before buying as well as the edition #, also make sure that it is not a bundled pack, this is a textbook that comes with a CD or DVD; most used books don't come with these. Also check with your prof if older editions my be used, as most information in books don't really change that much. If everything checks out then I say get all used books. The problem is that sometimes they are not avaliable. Good luck.

Check the condition but i can tell you that Amazon is a great site for books... it saved me a ton of money:) You can find the books you need for class for $1 at times (yes these are real deals). Just read about the condition and the edition to be sure. I have bought the edition back a few times to save money from these sites and still have gotten A's in the class and I could take notes in the books and highlight all over it and not feel guilty about it. I have kept some of them, resold them on amazon, or kept them if i liked the book.

Also another good site is www.half.com if you haven't already looked.

I bought textbooks on amazon this semester and saved about $100. All the books that were new were in very good condition. Just becareful who you buy from. Check their ratings and things like that. Also, make sure you're saving enough when shipping is added. Sometimes it's not worth it to buy textbooks online because after shipping it's almost as much.
Also, if you need the book soon becareful who you buy from. I ordered one from amazon (not one of the people selling on amazon but amazon itself) and I'm going to have to cancel the order and buy my book at school because I won't get it in time and I can't check it out at the library. Just watch things like that. Otherwise I'd say go ahead and buy your books online.

Be careful when you order your books from other places though. I know a lot of people who have done this and ended up with the wrong edition book, or with just the textbook and not the workbook, etc. When you go to the book store write everything down about your books so that you do get exactly what you needed.

Yes. used from amazon. I love amazon.com. Things to make sure of are condition, as has been said. Also the edition of the book. If your class requires a 5th edition and you are looking at a used book, make sure the used book is not a 4th or 3rd edition. Sometimes changes made to a new edition are hardly any at all. Sometimes a new edition is completely different.

www.alibris.com is good too.

Thanks guys for all of the responses! I ended up buying 3 books from biblio.com and the rest from the college bookstore, because almost every site was out of the books I needed. Hopefully, they'll be good. Thanks guys! Good luck this semester!

another really good site is books a million. they tend to have pretty good discounts, and if you join the club and keep using the card (or let your friends use it) it will stay active and keep saving you 10% more. plus, orders over $50 get free shipping, so that is an added bonus. I tend to spend more than that each semester for books, so it has worked out well for me.
