  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Texas is a fine and noble state, completely non-racist... wait a minute, no it's not

Hmm, you would think punching a mentally disabled person unconcious causing their brain to bleed, and dumping them on a FIRE ANT HILL would give you a wee bit more of a stringent sentence. The guy even admitted he hit the black guy because he was black. Man, i've even read that in some african tribes they used fire ants to slowly kill someone, you'd think that besides aggravated assault, unusual torture and cruelty, injury to a disabled person, you could put in attempted murder in there as well. Completely outrageous.

The real pain may come in the civil suit. Hopefully, the victim will be awarded damages, and whatever property or future earnings these guys have will go to him. It might be better justice not to put the perpetrators in jail, but have them work to support the victim for the rest of his life.

Some white residents believe it is a fair outcome for a few "good boys" from prominent families with no previous legal trouble.

For the love of God, I'm sick of hearing the term "good boys".

Just because you're a Republican and go to church doesn't make you holy. Can't these morons get it? I know plenty of people who are Republican and go to church and they are the worst bullies in my high school. One even targeted me.

Besides the fact that if they were "good boys" they wouldn't have beaten up a mentally challenged black man.

Well, my problem with the term "good boys" relies on that it leaves out a lot of people who really are good boys from the list.

To be qualified as a "good boy" in a strong red state:

* You have to be a Protestant or a Fundamentalist. A Catholic MIGHT just cut it if you live in a big city.
I'm non-denominational Christian.

* You have to go to Church every week.
I haven't been to church since I was 13 because they discouraged me to go to their church for asking too many questions.

* You have to be a Republican.
I'm somewhat Constitution, but mostly my own man politically.

* You have to be white.
I'm half-Asian.

* You have to have a hatred for liberals and liberal agendas.
I have a disliking for the gay agenda and arrogant liberals at worst. Indifference at best. I'm not hateful enough.

"It's been handled good as far as I'm concerned. They ought not to have been tried at all," Taylor said. "I think they should be turned loose, set free, with a slap on the wrist. It was just one of those things."

Yeah, so they beat a mentally challanged man till he was black and blue, left unconcious on a mound of the most painful biting ants around and all they deserve is a slap on the wrist? Disgusting attitude towards another being.

How people get caught up on silly things like nationality or race is beyond me.

This was just what I was thinking. Race is just a difference in pigmentation and ancestry. There is no "good" or "bad" to it. Nationality? Really, it is a piece of land that you're born on, and if not, you're probably up for discussion anyway. These groups (nations, races) take and make them their own, as soon as the person is born, and it is quite hard to change. What strange creatures humans are...

If you think Texas is bad, scroll back about 10 years to find out what California did after 4 guys beat a black man. Maybe that will give you some perspective.

EDIT: Once again it seems members here didn't read the whole story. You'd figure we would after what CNN has tried to pull in the past.

Lee, the district attorney, said the juries' decisions were in line with other juries who sympathize with first-time offenders. And he pointed out that the so-called beating involved one punch.

"This is not that horrible of an outcome. They were all convicted, they'll all be on probation, they'll all have a criminal record, they'll all be watched," he said. "They didn't get off scot-free."

So what? The point is that the texas community is racist. The fact of the matter is, this guy was beaten, resulting in his brain bleeding and they even left him on an fire Ant hill to die.

You obviously didn't read the rest of the article:

...

But other residents, blacks and whites, say the sentences are far from fair and just another example of justice being tainted by small-town politics, racism and a court system that favors whites.

Do you think no jail time is fair? Look at what the doctors said:

I bet if it'd had been reversed and a group of black men did this, i would bet my life savings that they'd get SIGNIFICANT jail time.

I like how republicans are tough on crime (unless it's white on black crime).

If they were good they wouldn't have beaten up anyone, mentally challenged, black, white or otherwise.

Without a doubt you could take that to the bank.
