My name is Colby and I am an Army Sgt for the 34th Infantry Division. I just returned from Iraq less than a month ago. I grew up in a “broken home.” My parents didn’t get along very well. My dad did drugs and my mom was an alcoholic. They didn’t believe in God and I never went to church.
I joined the US Army when I turned 18 and soon after I graduated Basic and all that good stuff I was sent to Iraq. While in Iraq, seeing the things I saw, I became a Christian. Through talking to friends, seeing what was going and through my own studies I concluded...there is a God. That or course is the short version, but I thought it would get the point across.

Thanks for serving your country and praise God you now serve the Savior.

I have a very close friend who is a chaplain in Afghanistan and he often emails me stories like yours. So encouraging.

Sarge - believing there's a God doesn't make you a Christian, obeying what God says does....
Acts 2:37: Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39: For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

You have given a testimony of what caused you to believe, but Jesus wants you to testify of His nature, as well as man's fallen nature...
Acts 1:8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me.

Go for it !

Congratulations for choosing life! It warmed my heart to read your testimony. I am constantly praying for you guys. I pray for everyone’s safety and for their hearts to find God. In Iraq where my husband is stationed, the church services have been so packed that the facilities had to be expanded. I rejoice in knowing that your soldiers have a Christian leader to look after them. The Army needs more leaders like you. Keep up the good work!

For those of you who don't know, SgtColby and also OneGood Reason (who is also a member here) are headed back to Iraq in January/February and I think we all need to pray for them and all the other troops overseas!
We will pray for you guys to make sure that you are covered in prayer while you are there. Good luck and thanks to you and your family for sacrificing so much for the pursuit of Freedom and the destruction of evil.

My friend's dad died over there...really sad. I know how it is to have messed up parents...my mom is an alcoholic and my mom is into Wicca and Satanism. I was sexually and physically abused since I was really little. My dad wanted me to join the army...but I never did

since I have gotten a number of people who wanted the full/or more of the story...here ya go!
God Bless
My life was so hectic growing up. My parents were into drugs, drinking and prostitution. They got me and my sisters involved in it as well. After awhile they kicked us out and left us to fend for ourselves. It was hard being 15 and taking care of my two younger sisters. When I was 17 I met this couple, good Christian people, who took my sisters and I in. They already had 5 kids, limited space and limited money but that didnt matter to them at all. They took us in anyway. Their only condition...we attend church every Sunday and join the church youth groups and choir. Just for going to church we got room and board and anything we needed. I figured that wouldnt be hard. Its was though because what I was taught growing up was nothing like what they teach in church.
When I was 18 I joined the army and as soon as I got done with basic and all I went to Iraq. While over there I finally realized what I had learned in church. I was begining to see why people need God in their lives. I contiuned to go to church over in Iraq and my belief in God and my faith grew and grew until I was comnpletly consumed by Jesus Christ! It is an amazing thing!
I came back from Iraq and am staying with that couple again. they legally adopted my sisters and want to adopt me as well, even though I am over 18. They want to make me a part of their family legally! I am so grateful for their love, support and guidance.

Thats still a little condensed...but you get the bigger picture now!
