Temporary Forum Closures (including DISCUSS RULES)

I say take as long as it takes. No one is going anywhere. CF has about 2000 members at peak times now as opposed to about 1500 just two years ago. (I am a Cost Analyst. I notice things like this) So, people are managing to still post and work around the thread closures.

About 2 thirds of those "members" are just crawling spiders. Not actual people.

For example, right now we have this:

Total users online: 2224
Current members online: 568
Current guests online: 1656

568 actual people. Of the "guests", about a third or less of them are actual people.

Crawlers are google spiders. They crawl the web, getting info. If you google your user name, you will see that google has a record of your profile. The way they got it was by crawling CF, getting info. If not your profile, then google has crawled all your posts here.

Aha! I have googled my name before and found all kinds of stuff. Do you know there is another Lisa0315 in Japan or somewhere and she is a very err...well, not a "nice" girl like me.

I think it's really bad. I think we should have more privacy than this. Due to the nature of CF, where we might post our inner most feelings. But that's what happens when google gets involved.

Okay, I read through the first ten pages of this thread. I couldn't bear to wade through the remaining thirteen, so bear with me if this question seems redundant.

Am I losing my mind or was Discussion of Rules & Staff Team Policy always a forum where you could post and your posts would immediately show up and would only be moderated for rule violations? If so, why change it to a tightly moderated forum? IMO, as it stands the DR forum isn't much of a help. Threads are locked and questions are rarely answered. Questions such as, "how can I choose a faith icon?" are clearly responded to whereas your hairier threads are rarely responded to and are locked before anyone gives a sufficient response. Won't this new method be an even further detriment to the purpose of that forum? Is it going to be a situation where only the admins are allowed to respond and members will not be permitted to discuss certain staff actions? I'm just wondering if this is really going to be beneficial.

And here.. all this time, I thought those were just humble prayer warriors in the prayer request forum.

How do you tell what percentage of them are google crawlers?
