does anyone know the band Barlowgirl? A lot have, and also I think they have a gift for teaching when i see them live. For those who know them but never have gone into a concert of theirs, u should try one time. They are very gifted in edifying the crowd. Their drummer often preaches for 5 minutes from the same verse in every show, I posted a fan -uploaded video of one of these sessions of hers below, take a look. I just hope none of them become pastors or church preachers later on. Well I am assuming they have that discernment. Here's the clip:

Even though there is an almost universal belief that teaching is a gift, which I presume most would mean by this that it is a Manifestation of the Spirit, it is in fact not a gift but something that is character and personality based.

The Spirit can certainly guide us as we study the Word but serious teaching and even study is probably 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration; it is the result of hard work and many hours of battling over complicated passages and Scriptural concepts.

Undoubtedly there has been more than one or two students of Greek and Hebrew who had wished that there was in fact a gift of Greek etc; and as for sentence diagramming oh don't we wish that this was indeed a gift.

Hi Everyone,

Teaching is indeed a gift Eley. Praise the Lord Amen.
Teaching is a skill too. An metaphor would be a doctor, patient, medicine and his or her skills. The Doctor is you the Teacher, Sister, Brother, Pastor, friend who faces people, situations and problems. The Patient is people in need, people who require guidance and help. The Medicine is the Word Of God, verses from the Bible. The Skills is a turning point and makes a world of difference --> Bible Teaching Skills. With Great Bible Teaching Skills, you practically deliver a strong message imprinted in minds and hearts of your "patient". It does not matter who you are or what you are, you will teach people something. But it is the way you teach them that matters.

Just a little sharing for everyone
All the Best
Anthony

Teaching is a gift given by the Holy Spirit.The bible says and he gave some to be Teachers and some Apostles etc.Of course we can all teach as commanded by Jesus as we make disciples but there's a gift of teaching.With that you get supernatural revelation of the scripture and you see things that people don't usually see.It is also one thing to understand but another to communicate.Teachers of the word are anointed to explain scriptures supernaturally above the norm.Like any gift teachers need to study to show themselves approved by God but they also have an unusual hunger for the word to the extent of it becoming an obsession.

1 Corinthians 12:28
28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

God is the one who appoints people into these offices.We can all prophesy but we are not all prophets.We can all teach but we are not all teachers.The teaching in this context is the gift and office that God puts you in.

DYOLF,

I missed your response which is the reason for the late reply.
If we consider the common notion that it is the Spirit who gives this gift we in fact find no reference to the Spirit imparting this grace to anyone, it is in fact the Father who has established the Office or function of the teacher. The Holy Spirit is the agent of the 9 Manifestations (1Co 12:7-11) of which the role of the teacher is not one.

Paul goes on to tell us in 1Co 12:27-31that the Father is the agency of the eight Offices and four of these are better referred to as natural abilities as with the;
1. Apostle
2. Teacher
3. Administrations
4. Helps

There are certainly four highly Spirit driven Offices which are;
1. Prophet
2. Miracles
3. Healings
4. Tongues

I can’t speak for every academic but I doubt if there would be all that many who would see their role as being one of the Manifestations of the Spirit but one that is based more on temperament with their work being the result of a lot of hard effort; though the Spirit of God can certainly lead them it is still primarily a task based on temperament and disposition.

The Eph 4 reference is not a reference to the Spirit but to Jesus where we are told that he has left behind presents to men and I would put these down to the five primary personality types. It is interesting that Paul does not include shepherds (pastors) and evangelists as either spiritual graces or Offices in 1Co 12.

There is one Manifestation of the Spirit mentioned in Rom 12 which is prophecy where Paul is using this specific MotS as representative of the nine.
