  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Taylor Swift is now "Really Focused" on beating Republicans

I agree. But not because of Swiftie.

She's a pop singer. It's a sad commentary that she has 1 billion views on a song like "You need to calm down.' Mostly cause she makes crap music tied to nonsensical videos.

I don't care what she thinks and neither should you. Even though, as I said, I agree with her. Friggin pop acts.

Everyone has the right to their opinion and to express that opinion, so I stand behind Swift doing that very thing. I just don't think her opinion should matter more than the woman's across the street or the teacher down the hall. That's all I'm saying.

She thinks too highly of herself (and her opinions) because she equates likes with worth. (But what do I know, I'm a rock fan.)

I hold the woman across the street and the teacher down the hall in much higher regard than that.

You missed mine, though. You said you do not think Swift's opinion should matter more than the women's opinions; I said that I do not hold the random women's opinions so low as to be only equal to that.

Ah, yes, you are right..I missed it. My apologies.

The difference between today and 50 yrs ago is that celebrities who used their voice, spoke against a way of life then and offered an alternative (kinda like Jesus) which was far different in comparison to personal attacks today. (today being more in line with the style of the Pharisee's condemnations)
