  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As someone who is a tattoo fan and proudly displays a whole canvas of tattoo artwork, I want to pose a question to all of you.

TATTOOS? Ok or Not?

There are MANY Christian/Religous people that avidly stang agaisnt tattoos for religous reasons. Saying they are bad or agaisnt God for numerous reasons (which I dont have room to list).

Tattoos have been a religous cultural expression since the Mayans and Aztec people, and maybe before that. So, take out the naked ladies and strange symbols in tattoo culture today and see what you think.

Are tattoos a SIN??? Whats YOUR take?

If tattoos are sin the so is ear piercing, makeup, clothing, hairstyles, painted fingernails, necklaces, etc.

No, tattooing is not a sin. I would not say that tattooing evil things on yourself would be good but it is all just decoration.

If you like it, use it to glorify God and all is good.

Well, I am a Christian and I have a tattoo. But I will say that I got it when I was very young and didn't really think it through. I would not get one now that I'm deeper in my faith because I am unclear on how I feel about them now. My mother says your not suppose to mark your body, but I think that really means take "the mark" - like take on the mark of the world. I think anything you take to an extreme or excess can become sinful.

I don't think you can declare it wholesale to be a sin. The motive behind it is often sin -- pride, vanity, etc. It doesn't matter much whether it is something "faith-based" either. Wouldn't having a "Christian" tattoo hold the same possibility of sin as the Pharisees with their long tassles and broad phyacteries? It could be just another (albeit strange) form of showiness in your religion.

Mostly I think tattoos are just dumb. MOST (not all) people regret them -- when they get older. It won't keep you out of heaven though. If your tattoo was sinful (such as a naked woman) or if the motive was sinful, but you repented of it, it would be like any other forgiven sin.
