Does anyone know how to Tat?? I want to learn and really have no idea where to begin...

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ladyday, I don't know how to tat, but I wish to learn as well. Problem being, I just haven't had time to get the stuff and try. I was thinking about working my way down to true tatting, because there is cro-tat, which is more with larger yarns. Eventually trying needle tatting and then perhaps the shuttle.

I taught myself tatting and bobbin lace. If you do a google search, you can find lots of instruction sites that include diagrams, etc. My favorite for supplies is

There are many YouTube videos that show you how to tat. I've taught a tatting class or two. If you are a visual learner, try the videos. Some people can pick up on it just by reading instructions, but I have always found it helps greatly to have a visual demonstration.

I'm sorry I don't even know what tatting is. Can you give me a definition?

Tatting is a way of making lace using a shuttle or needle. It is not like crochet but it is similar - although not really! I know - clear as mud isn't it?! You can google it. I'd post a link for you but I have not been a member long enough to be able to.
