Dear Daily Message Readers,

READ: 1 Peter 1:13-25

1 Peter 1:13 (NIV) "Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed."

Have you ever known a godly Christian man or woman who did not spend regular time with God? Have you ever been exposed to a Christian who has lived a double life--one of much talk and little action in their devotional life with the Lord?

Chances are that you have met both of these kinds of people in your lifetime. But would we dare say that prayer and Scripture are not priorities of life? Then why, if they are so dear to our relationship with Christ, do so many of us let our devotional life get bumped out by the concerns of the day?

To answer these questions, we must remember that the basis for the devotional life (and even this devotion) is time for God and your relationship with Him. We must set a definite time to develop that relationship and keep that same time every day. Setting a definite time will help to avoid some pitfalls such as laziness, inconsistency, and interruptions.

Have you slipped off your devotional path? Have you neglected to spend with God today or this week? Then remember that applying God's Word is a daily process and not merely a one-time act. We learn to keep doing God's Word and continue its work over the long haul when we make it a priority. This is what makes the permanent changes in our lives and the lives of others.

Faith Lesson: Neglecting the most basic elements in your walk with God leads to disaster all around as you attempt to live for Him.

In Christ,
Darin Smith
