  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Beckie, did you read the article I linked to? There is a section in there that refers to what the Taize service does as mysticism.

Maybe the Pastors you have seen use it, rewrote the service or something.

That's just it, the Taize services within the WELS are the furthest thing from mysticism. I would venture a guess that most pastors in the LCMS are also not heading that path. I think we are losing the proper context here.

How can WELS use the connotation "Taize" if it isn't Taize oriented? I would think the promoters of Taize would be all over WELS for borrowing a name that doesn't even fit the Taize criteria and plagerizing the format. I also think there is a lot of denial with some people in WELS just like there was in the 70's--80's in LCMS.

Are you also saying that Rev. Meitner the current pastor of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain, Michigan and 2002 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary doesn't know what he is talking about?

I'm not in denial, but thanks for the backhanded insult. I'm married to one of the most conservative pastors in the synod, goldbeach. I highly doubt he would allow me to attend anything like this, let alone play in one, if it were outside of the scope of scripture.

Of course not. That's just you trying to put words in my mouth.
