Here is the thread I started asking about a specific book and got other suggestions: http://www.christianforums.com/t730990

The book I mention was revised from a four-volume work but "maintains a remarkable practicality and thoroughness".
My plan is to start reading it this weekend.

Berkhof was dry, I didn't realize in was written over 60 years ago....
I don't think Berkhof is dry at all, although he tries to technically stick to his subject. I haven't used either Grudam or Reymond, but have heard both have a very devotional quality to them. Warning, though Grudem is a third waver, i.e. Vineyard Theologian, I have heard he is excellent on most other topics.

Wayne Grudam is good except on Prophecy ............he leaves doors open for fallable prophecy that comes alledgedly from God!

He said Agabus made a mistake by the Holy Spirit....................

He was very successfully taken to task by Victor Bugen " Charismatics and the Word of God" EP .....but the resulting arguement split E.T in two. (Evangelical Times) :sigh:

Budgeon is excellent in that book. I have a couple of papers written in response to Grudem's faulty view of Prophecy written by David Farnell I think out of Southeastern Baptist, that I think devastates Grudem's arguments. If you want them I can e-mail them to you. I think the real danger with modern views of revelation, which actually aren't new, they tear down the authority of scripture.

Street Preacher,

Calvin's Institutes is great. It takes alot of time and dilligence to worht through it and digest it. I've read the entire book three times and I still don't know it well enough. Francis Turretin's 3 Volume is very good. For a Reformed baptist view Try Sam Waldron's Exposition of the 1689 London Baptist Confession.

Ya know, I've never read anything written by Calvin. For the longest time I resisted being called a Calvinist and avoided John Calvin's works even when I believed the Doctrines of Grace. Because of the bias people have towards Grace I fell for the trap and allowed what people thought to influance what I read, that includes the works of Calvin.

Not anymore.

Can you suggest a good translation of his works?
