  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

With the collapse of Hezbollah in Lebanon (due to Israelis) and with the promise not to butcher Christians the Muslim rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) (A designated terrorist group) have now replaced Assad (Russia and Iran) as the protector of the church in Syria.

Will Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) keep their promises to protect the church?

They were angry that Assad ever allowed Christians in his government at all. They hated everything about how Assad treated Christians and minorities in general.

With full power I don't see them doing anything but slaughter.

They aren't benevolent people who are kind-hearted and they in no wise believe in minorities having equal status to them.

This is very upsetting.

Muslims will continue to be Muslims.

If anyone expects much different then I’m sure they’re in for a surprise.

The Rashidun caliphate (the first one) was characterized by tolerance for Christians and Jews. These are Salafi Jihadists much as the original Muslims were. If they follow the prophet's example they will not butcher Christians though they may impose a tax on them.

They have been trying to rebrand themselves as nationalists recently and this has led to a more diplomatic and tolerant tone. Their history is awful but maybe the burden of actual government combined with their new strategy holds out some hope.

Turkey wants Syria to take 3 million refugees back, I do not know what their role in this recent HTS success was - Erdogan and Assad were not getting on. I would not be surprised if Biden and the Israelis had a part to play here, perhaps sharing crucial intelligence info as this benefits them at the expense of Russia which now only has a beleaguered Iran as a "friend" in the Middle East. If HTS had such allies I would hope that they also set conditions on their aid. Conditions that HTS were already inclined to accept due to their new desire to be a government of Syria for all the Syrians and not just their faction.

We know what will happen soon.

Isaiah 17:1 An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.

We need to be praying for the Christians in Syria.
Can we now send all the Syrian refugees back? (The answer is most will not return)
Will any Arabs thank Israel, who by weakening Iran's proxy Hezbollah, weakened Assad, and allowed for his downfall?

They want to make society as a whole Islamic.

It’s part of their “holy” jihad.

It’s their end game.

May God have mercy on us all!
