Am I the only one who hates using any sort of symbol to represent God? As ironic as it sounds, I can't stand using anything but a crucifix to "put a face" to God because for me it makes Him even harder to relate to and see as Holy. I pefer to see Him as an incorporeal force of love that is everywhere, and it makes it easier for me to worship Him that way.

does anybody else share this belief? ha i sound like a hippie...

I know God is real. The nature, the Bible, Jesus... they all reaveal God to me. But I dont believe God is just a "force" ...thats not biblical. God is real, as Satan is also real. I was never to keen on drawings of Jesus and stuff, I dont know why, and I dont wear a cross, but if I did, I would wear only the cross, without Jesus in it... so that it would mean Jesus is ALIVE...

Doesn't sound odd to me - the second commandment begins with this line:

Exodus 20:4 - You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below

I can't turn to a symbol and see my Savior, I can not truly pray to an icon. God is in us and with us like the small gentle breeze, not in some cold peice of wood or metal.

An empty cross doesn't mean Jesus is alive, because the cross would be empty regardless. A crucifix brings to mind His redemptive sacrifice.

God is not an "incorporeal force."

I don't have any problems with symbols - they've been used for a very long time, and usually have layers of meaning.

yeah I know the empty cross doesnt represent that, it would be my own personal way of looking at it... I hate seeing Jesus hanging on the cross, because for me is more meaningful picturing Him alive AFTER his death. I love having a living God. (Its how I feel it)
