• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone else do this? I have had an eating disorder for about eight years now...on and off sort of.

For about the last six months or so, I have been pretty severely anorexic...except for these last two weeks I have been binging and purging pretty much every day. Do any other anorexics do this? Does that make me bulimic now? Or both? Because I am still restricting a lot as well as binging and purging.

I am in recovery...and I know how bad this is. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced times when they go through both anorexia and bulimia...if so was there something that triggered it? Or did it just happen? I don't know why I can't stop binging and purging. It sucks, I hate it.

Anyone have any good advice for how I can stop???

Em, That happened to me... Fairly bad anorexia, then when i was made eat by mam, id eat a good bit and bring it up...
So you're not alone :hug:

How you can get 'fixed' i dont know... Do you talk to people about it? If not i recommend you talk to at least one amazingly good friend about it.

one way i relax and take away cravings(for throwing up) is to listen to music.
I have no idea what you're tastes are, but ill try and recommend some songs...
Haste the Day: stitches. (dunno why, but it has a really good message; "you're worth more than this")
Underoath: When the sun sleeps. (not all the song, just some random lines :) em, "we too can fall in love a second too late" ie, who knows what joy and happiness you're missing by giving in to anorexia and bullimia)
Into Oblivion(reunion): Funeral for a friend. Not Christian I know, but a friend recommended it to me when i was really down. It reminds us that nothing lasts forever(cept God ;)) and you WILL get through this!!!)

Dx-wise, it would be EDNOS rather than AN or BN, simply bc you are switching so frequently, and "doing both" at the same time. But dx doesn't always matter. :p

Have you talked with anyone about this? bc I think that that would be a very good thing for you to do... are you seeing a therapist? or have you ever? bc that would be good too... In order to get better, you need a support network, and it sounds like you're struggling pretty severely right now - I hope that you have people that you can turn to. :hug: We're here, but we're just online... you should have some people in real life that you can talk with about your struggles. That's where a T would come in handy. S/he could also give you much better advice than we can (after all, we are not professionals! :p), I should think. And - if you are at all unstable medically - see a doctor. I don't know you much, but I wouldn't want to see you get horribly sick from your ED.

I hope some of that makes sense. What anberlin said is good too - distractions when you feel like you have to purge, after meals or binges or whenever. Make a list... music, journalling, reading, YOGA!!! :), art, dancing, talking with friends, coloring (silly-sounding, but it is cathartic sometimes!)... the list goes on. Just think of some things that work for you, or that you are willing to try, and go from there. We'll be here if you need/want to talk, and my PM box is also always open.
