  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey is switchfoot still a Christian band? becouse one of my friends told me they are secular now and only doing secular shows becouse they pay more money, but i think to be a true Christian you would have to sing the message of God regardless of the money and what other people think of you!

don't suse the word secular it sounds bad. Switchfoot has gone mainstream, they are now on a mainstream lable. that dosn't mean there faith has changed at all. They are still a "christan" band. skillit, pod, piller, and a few other have also gon to a mainstream lable.

Their lyrics speak about God... their lives hopefully speak about God.

If we judge whether or not people are Christians by the hour or so we spend with them, looking for them to mention God's name or pray, we will label many, many, many Christians as non-Christians.

I think they are still Christian. I mean, I saw them in concert last weekend, and it just seems like they appeal to a wide variety of people, not just Christians. But the way they acted and sounded seemed like they were 'wholesome' or whatever if that made any sense.

Peace out!

So what's the point in "reaching out" if you don't meet them with God? I'm not fully decided on this, but Third Day seems to be doing the same thing. I don't think Third Day's music is secular enough to make it, and eventually, they'll have to return to the music most enjoyed by the people who made them who they are.
It is good to have Christians in mainstream music, but what's the point if thier music is marginalized?

The other side of me says, "Wow, Switchfoot on MTV!" It beats watching Eminem doesn't it?

I think the case can be made that if you live your life doing everything to God's glory as commanded in Scripture, that you are "meeting them with God."

Hmm. Granted I've never heard Third Day's early music, but much of their music on their latest CD, Wire, can't help but be identified with Christianity I think.

Why is marginalizing(perhaps you should define "marginalizing") bad?
Seems to me a lot of assumptions are going on in this discussion...
