Sounds a bit racist to me. And frankly the demographics stink. It's all younger folks. I really enjoyed previous seasons with the "token" players in their 50's and 60's. Except for a few in their 40's, it's all 20's & 30's.

Wow, that's a lot of recruits. Heh, the spoiler boards are gonna hate this. Thats one of the biggest pet peeves about Survivor and their casting, they recruit dozens of players every year, and the 63 000 + people who actually submit applications and videos dont' even count.

There were so many complaints about the lack of ethnic diversity within the casting of the show that I guess this is their way of appeasing those people.

It will be kind of interesting to see whether ethnicity does play into how a person reacts to the situation, and whether they would be giving each other some slack because of it. I know Jeff Probst said on the Early Show today that one female said that it really didn't matter what the person's ethnicity was. What's important is how the game ends.

Ach! Ok, so they put them into ethnic groups and expect what to happen? I think it's going to create racial tensions. Why not random, or mix things up? It'll be interesting for sure.

I'm expecting the 4 tribes of 5 won't last long. Perhaps two or three episodes at most. What I don't like is they named three tribes with very PC names, and left the "White tribe". that almost undoes the PC-ness they tried to prove with the other names.

Oh well. One thing can be said about the recruits, it brings together a lot of people who don't already have strategy in mind, as well as comparisons, "I'm going to play like Colby/Gabe/Terry/Zoe/Tina/Jerri." It sounds from Probsts' first TV appearances that they have almost completely reverted back to the blank slate they started with Season 1. Which tells me we're in for something very VERY good.

Im not crazy about the division and diversity Survivor idea. What good can come of it? What good ever comes out of survivor anyway? Haha. Im not sure I'll be watching this season.

Dude, I haven't missed a single season yet. I can count on two hands the number of total episodes I've missed, and have fingers left over.

I have been a loyal Survivior watcher but I don't know if I will watch this season. It's too much with the tribes being of race.

The fact is, though, when there are two or three people of the same race on the show, they tend to group themselves that way anyway. Think Ted and Ghandia, Sean and Vecepia, it's happened a number of times over the years just naturally. So really, is this much different?

The show has been hammered repeatedly about not being ethnically diverse. Unfortunately, they do not get ethnically diverse applications from people who want to be on Survivor. Jeff said that this year, a whopping 13 of the 20 contestants were recruited - because they wanted an ethnically diverse cast and didn't have the applications.

Then, once they started recruiting and seeing how much ethnic pride there was in these contestants, THEN they decided to stretch the "social experient" that is Survivor to the racially split tribes, to see how it plays out.

I see nothing wrong with it. If the tribe members tend to split that way naturally anyway, why is it bad to split them purposely and see how they interact with each other? Remember, there will ultimately be a jury of 7 who will have to vote for a winner between two people. The winner will be the person who was able to see beyond race and bond with people of all ethnicities. That could be a really wonderful and inspiring thing to watch. Not to mention that there is a 75% chance that the winner of this season will NOT be a white American!

I'm very much looking forward to this season, probably more than I have any other season of Survivor.

I will be watching this season I think. I didn't watch last season because it seemed like it was the same ol thing over & over. But this is going to be kinda interesting!

I think it will be absolutely interesting on the sociological scale.

If you look at society as a whole, we're divided into ethnic groups, or gravitate, to those who are much like ourselves. Why not just skip step one and head on out to step two when people just naturally gravitate to those who are "like" each other:

I'm just looking forward how each ethnic group interacts with each other and see if that "gravitational pull" will transfer up to when the tribes start merging together.

Yes. It's all a bit too politically correct for me. It seems wrong to me to not just pick the best possible contestants from the pool of applicants to be on the show. Why does it have to be "diverse"? Why don't people of various ethnicities apply? Maybe they're just not interested. I mean seriously, if someone of colour applied, they would probably stand a very good chance of being chosen. As it is, the people who wanted to be on the show, weren't even considered because they didn't check the right box.

PS Before you beat up on me, I have a multiracial family.

While the majority of contestants have been white there have been contestants who are racially or ethnically diverse on the show. You can't make people apply. My problem with it is instead of having diverse groups work together and learn something they will now compete against each other. It's just asking for trouble and I feel it's simply a ratings ploy. Suvivor is not a great sociological indicator. It's a game show. I mean they might as well done a Christian vs. Islam vs. Judism show. As far as checking the right box a friend of my om's went to try out for the show. She camps and is very athletic. They asked her about previous contestants and when she said she didn't watch the show they told her she could not be a contestant. Talk about discrimination.
