I have never been to Idaho but #2 on the list was Washington D.C. and I hated driving through there. Most big cities are difficult to drive through and contain rude drivers.

In DC what stands out to me is how terribly the roads are laid out. I always get lost, let alone the rude drivers ^_^

I'm surprised to note that Minnesota drivers are considered not rude. They do seem to have that certain combination of aggressiveness and lack of skill that the article claims Idaho does.

He added that "pretty much no driver in New York bothers to indicate before turning.”

Is he basing this on NY the city, or NY the entire state? I see plenty of signaling drivers on a daily basis, as well as drivers who let other people out who are trying to pull out of parking lots or side streets into heavy traffic.

I would say it's where there is the highest urban density.

It's not a matter of: "Iowan genes make people steer wildly or step on the gas too much".

It's sort of the difference between "aggressive and skilled" and "aggressive and unskilled." The latter is scarier to me.

Oh, you mean when you can't remotely predict what some driver is going to do next...

Or they cut you off aggressively and then proceed to drive ~ 20 mph under the speed limit. While towing a trailer of hay.

I'm always amazed that the "Jersey/California roll" (not even remotely coming to a stop at a stop sign but rolling through slow enough to hopefully avoid collisions) is seen in 2 states across the country from one another. I rarely see it elsewhere, and people I know from other states are always a bit terrified when I do it (bad habit, I know).

While D. C. is the most difficult city for driving in my experience, I would say Florida has the rudest and most dangerous drivers. While I lived there, several people (including small children) were killed by people barreling through intersections against red lights. I insisted my kids ride their bikes on the sidewalk, not in the street.

Moved from Orlando to rural Virginia and cut my car-insurance cost in half!

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of stop signs and I see those things all the time (Maryland).

I live in the Capital Region of NY State. It's far from being boonie-ville. You want to see traffic jams, try driving I-87 and I-787 south into Albany in the morning, or northbound in the afternoon around 5:00; likewise, I-90 in both directions. I am so thankful I don't need to take the highway to get to work, because the traffic is often SRO around those times.

It is absolutely against the law to do it in NY State. You're supposed to stop before the crosswalk (either actual or where it would be if there isn't one), look for pedestrians (who have the right of way on all intersections not controlled by stop lights, otherwise they have to cross with their green light), and then slowly move up enough so that you can see the opposing traffic before proceeding. Nevertheless, I see people from time to time looking like they are going to dart out in front of me, and I give them a blast on the horn and a dirty look.

LOL I love how Georgia and Florida hate each others' driving. Although, it's not unusual to be in Atlanta and have some retiree from Boca Raton plow into you because they decided to go from 25mph to 80mph just to cut in front of you without a turn signal LOL

As a resident of Delaware, I can say that it definitely earned its #6 spot. People here will mow you down and not think twice about it. And the cell phone laws? A joke! Georgia drivers, I apologize on behalf of this stoopid state. I can't wait to get out of here myself.

Cities are really bad, but four way stop signs are a nightmare. Cars breaking just before the sign, and rolling stops are common. Yes, I will wait until the other car stops, because I am afraid off being hit.

Their are sections of Philadelphia that the drivers tend not to stop at the signs.

The courtesy just isn't there for many people.

Thankfully I don't have to go that far. I live in downtown Troy (just south of Russell Sage) and work in Menands.

My area of NY State has a love affair with traffic circles, AKA roundabouts. There's one section of Route 9 just south of Saratoga Springs where there are something like 3 in a row all within one mile or so of each other.

The problem is that a lot of people, unless they did a lot of driving in Latham NY (which had the only traffic circle in the area until just the past few years - and I have either been driven through it or driven it for 40 years as of this month), have no clue how to negotiate one without causing an accident or at least a near-miss. The people already IN the circle have the right of way, but I see a lot of people come flying up to the entrance, and I have to slow because I don't know if they are going to stop or not, in spite of the signs TELLING them they have to yield.
