Supreme Commander

I just played the demo for Supreme Commander and I gotta say...Im a little disapointed.

The tutorial was an HTML manual that told you next to nothing. The graphics were not stellar. And the storyline (And even the gameplay) seemed like an attempted modernization of Total Annihilation.

The actual game screen (Where you could look onto the battlefield) was only about 70% of the screen. The rest was taken up by toolbars.

I had pretty high hopes for this game but it was a little bit of a letdown to play the demo

Yep, too much hype I think. That's the general feeling people have had.

There's a free TA: Spring game made by the fan community if you're looking for an alternative sequel to TA though.

I don't know about all that. Some of the gameplay videos are absolutely stunning and it's in the spirit of the original. And well, for a sequel I expect it to carry over the same setting and to have similar gameplay. I'll be sure to play through the demo when I can.

Have to revive this thread...

there are multiple HUD layouts, including a minimalistic one. just use Alt+ up and down arrows (Might be Ctrl + arrows)

as for graphics...cranked up on full it's pretty awesome, and you have the full 3D view when you hold spacebar and use the mouse to look around.

As for TA ripoff...well...yea. Same Devs, who listened to the community that WANTED more TA. And it's a good thing I think!

Cybran Rule! MUAHAHAHA!!

I havent dl the demo yet, but i hear the learning curve is high, so if your looking for an indepth challenging game this may be the one to get. I also heard that if you dont have a highend system and hopefuly a dual+ core to not even try it.

I think it sounds like a good game though.

I'm playing on an Athlon XP 2800+ (32bit) with a Geforce 6800, and 1GB Ram...I run it "Playable". Starts out smooth as silk, but once the teams start to crank out units...slows down alot. I can go up to the 20x20km maps. 40x40 and 80x80 are out for me on this rig.

As for learning curve, it wasn't bad. this was my first RTS ever, and well...I started with the tutorial, then dove into the first mission, then did a skirmish against the easy AI. I beat it after an hour and a half. LOL (EASY AI! LOL) Sevral matches later, I could easily beat that AI in 20 minutes.
