  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I saw this on the local TV station's web site today and thought to post it here. It has links to various sites that support the troops.

http://www.kcra.com/news/10124050/detail.html

from the web site: "The following organizations provide care packages and other support to American troops serving overseas, and support to their familes back home."

Operation Military Support

America Supports You

Operation USO Care Package

U.S. Troop Care Package

Any Soldier

Soldier Angels

Some of these may have been posted before but dont hurt to post them again. Ban old vet myself, I can appreciate getting a care package or a letter when I was away from home sitting in a bunker.

Always remember the troops in prayer. Counter-insurgency warfare, as in garrisons sniffing out cells of terror, can be immensely discouraging. An unseen enemy, long periods of boredom, the locals can be partisan either way (Sometimes joining who they fear, more than who is ethical or right), sometimes switching sides, sometimes inhospitable towards garrison. Sometimes even missunderstood and not supported from the home country public.

Make every effort to make that support personal. I'm not talking about parcels - just letters. I remember the difference between a parcel being lost in the post, and a letter being lost in the post.

Lose a parcel, and your no longer on speaking terms. Lose a letter, and Mr Postman, get running and keep running!!!!!

One of the biggest dissappointments were when I went on tour, and people promised they would write to me and never did. If you said you would write - do it.

If there is more than one person you write to, make a list of the names and put a date and tick next to each name.

Remember, even if they aren't beleievrs, you could influence them for the Gospel. We testify with our love Jn 13:34-35;)

Just another thought about letters rather than parcels: In my dad's era (World War 2), they sent metal boxes(like chocolate or cigar boxes) with the head of General (Field Marshall) Jannie Smuts on it with all sorts of goodies for the troops, like writing paper, chocolate, pencils, etc. A neighbour of ours said that when they received theirs, the tins had been so raided, that all that was left inside was a piece of string!! (Personally, I think that is pretty mean.)

Thanks for posting this :)

About a month ago I signed up to "adopt" a couple soldiers, send them letters of support and care packages, and I got my first reply the other week. It was one of the most exciting moments reading that letter :) I highly recommend anyone who is interested to adopt a soldier, even if you are a solider yourself!
