  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Super Bowl: Philadelphia Eagles Beat Patriots for First Championship
Everything had lined up for the New England Patriots to once again storm to a last-minute Super Bowl victory, but Brandon Graham, a standout defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles, shot through the offensive line and his strip sack of Tom Brady ended the threat, handing the Eagles a shocking 41-33 upset in Super Bowl LII and the team’s first championship since 1960.

Nick Foles, the backup quarterback who took over as Philadelphia’s starting quarterback only after an injury to Carson Wentz in Week 14, completed 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he even caught a touchdown pass in an offensive effort that few predicted he was capable of coming into the game. He repeatedly converted third down opportunities, threw aggressively into coverage all game, and appeared every bit as poised and confident as Brady, the five-time champion on the other side of the field.

So happy for the Eagles! I'm glad their fans can celebrate too. There are a few teams left, like the Lions, who I think deserve at least one win. Maybe now Brady will retire :D

Thanks for spoiling it. I'm watching it recorded and am still in the 3rd quarter.

As a kid my heart felt like it was full of balloons that had all just been popped after my friend who lives on the East Coast went on Twitter and gushed out all the spoilers for the season finale of our favorite show, before it had even begun to air on the West Coast. After that I learned to be careful going online, avoiding any site where people interact with one another or that has news headlines, to stay off IM and texting, and to turn off notifications on my phone until after I've watched whatever it is I'm eagerly anticipating. Though there hasn't been anything I've been that excited about in a while....

Anyways. I don't know if you were just ribbing the OP or not. Oh! Since you're Catholic, maybe this will cheer you up slightly, if you were being serious! Okay, so I'm not Catholic but my first love as well as close friends are, and through him and them I've been involved with Catholic communities in my hometown. There's an endearing priest at St. Monica's in Santa Monica named Msgr. LLoyd who is loved by everyone, including Tom Brady! He presided over Tom and Gisele's wedding and their children's baptism, and has remained close to them. He's been their guest at the Super Bowl games. Last year he got to be on the field after the Patriots won to congratulate Tom. This year he also attended the game, and I'm sure he still had a fantastic time even though the Patriots lost. He's the kind of person who manages to stay happy.

Anyways, I am excited for Philadelphia! They must be exploding with pride. It was a fun game to watch, and I am not even into football, hahaha.

Probably should have been watching the recording instead of surfing the web then.
Frankly, given how loud everyone was, I'm surprised everyone on the planet didn't immediately know.

Something else momentous happened during the game. My <2 year old daughter learned how to fetch me beer from the beer bucket AND put the empties in the recycling bin. I didn't have to move from the couch the entire first half.

For all the "[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] Look how crazy everything was!!!!", if you consider the sheer number of people celebrating and the amount of alcohol consumed by them all, the amount of damage was pretty low (and one facebook group I am part of is happy about some damage because it exposed some pretty architecture that had been covered up by ugly awning). At UMass Amherst, there was a riot because the Patriots loss, that was just as bad and with fewer people.

Its odd, every time the spurs win the nba championship everybody comes out to celebrate too. No riots tho.

Those folks rioting are thugs and I hope lots and lots of em got arrested.
