  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yikes! That is a big gap. It's been a while since I taught kids that age, but there are a few things that might work.

Braided keychains (or bracelets) could be made from 3 to 5 strands depending on skill level.

Have you ever seen kid quilts? The kids take pieces of fabric and glue them onto construction or poster paper to make quilts. Then, using the tiny craft clothes pins, and the tiny hangers, you hang them on the wall. They can either work with patterns and designs or do crazy quilts that are random.

Colored sand projects - a couple of different kinds. One is layering sand in a jar in pretty patterns, another project would be to glue colored sand in patterns to create pictures. The second one might be a bit hard for your age group.

I also remember making candy dishes with tile and grout.

How about painting plaster figurines?

Clay figures that are then baked to harden? They could also paint their own figures.

I don't even know if they have them in the stores any more, and I don't remember the specific name. But they had a plastic that you could trace designs on, and color and then stick into the oven or microwave and they would shrink and thicken and make lovely sun catchers. If you do use these, always remember to punch the hole for hanging them before you shrink them!

We also enjoyed doing the craft that comes with a metal outline, and you drop colored plastic crystals into them, and then baked them to make suncatchers.

Want more ideas? <g>

LOL - I'm glad you like them. I used to teach crafts, years ago. Actually, back when I was about your age. These days my business keeps me fairly busy. I don't know what your budget is like - that was usually my biggest limitation.

I was about 7 or 8 when I started doing counted cross stitch, very simple patterns. If you buy the larger even weave, (6 per inch) I would mark the squares I wanted them to cross stitch with a pen that would wash out, and then they could cross-stitch bookmarks, either with their name on them, or with Jesus on them. (Let me know if you need a pattern for that.

If anyone in your church has a badge-a-minute badge maker, the kids love being able to draw their own designs and then have them made up into personal buttons.

Simple pressed flower projects - like picking leaves and drying them, or flat flowers (things like pansies) Then you arrange them on poster board, (these make good placemats) and then when they are all arranged, add a layer of clear peel and stick plastic. (Like you cover books with. You can get it in any hardware store.)

Tie dyed tee-shirts can be a little more messy, you might want to stick with special fabric permanent markers for the kids to make their own designs with. Have simple designs for them to copy or trace if they want.

You could also have them create the "wordless book". Don't know if you are familiar with it... it's pages of construction paper, each page a particular color to tell a story. Black for sin, red for Christ's blood, white for how clean we are once we are washed clean. Don't remember all the colors... think there was also gold for the streets of heaven and green for new growth in Christ. I've also seen beaded bracelets with the same basic theme.

Have you tried doing a search on the web for children's crafts? That might give you lots of ideas.

They're called Shrinky Dinks!

There is always playdough that you can make. I'm sure there are recipes for that online. Finger crocheting works good for fidgety little ones while listening to stories. So does the playdough. They can be fidgety and still be good listeners.

OOh, I just remembered another one.

If they're learning about Jonah or another water-related story,or perhaps for Mother's day:

Get epsom salts from grocery store (dirt cheap), mix it with a little food coloring (blue for water), you can add scent by using the freebie perfume samples they pass out at stores. A drop or two is all it takes to scent and color the epsom salts. THen Voila! Bath salts.
