  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hello everyone. I am very new to Christianity, I do believe I am saved and I have started to read several books in the bible, but have only completely read a few: Matthew, Romans, Mark. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good study plan? Just like which ten books or so should I start with? Also, I am still looking for a good study guide. Something that you can read and answer questions at the end of the book or something like that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi brother in Christ
You could start with Proverbs as there are 31 chapters in this book one for every day of the month. There are lot's of study Bible's to choose from, you could try "THE LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE" but it's a bit exspensive. If you go to any Christian book shop I'm sure they will be able to help you. Hope this helps, if I can be of any help please PM me. God bless you
Paul.

As far as books of the Bible goes, I'd probably recommend the following (roughly in order):

Ephesians
John
Isaiah
Luke
Acts
Psalms
Colossians
Philippians
Proverbs
Galatians
1 John
Genesis
1 Corinthians
2 Corinthians
Exodus

...that should keep you going for a while.

I like to read through two books of the Bible simultaneously - one from the Old Testament and one from the New. At the moment it's 2 Chronicles and Luke.

These are very good suggestions and I also would tell you to start with these. I find it easy to study a chapter at a time in these books and possibly read a psalm and a proverb a day. You could also research around on the internet to find something that has some study tools. Maybe someone here may know of any.

I'd start with these:

John
Romans
Ephesians
1 Cor
Psalms
Genesis
Luke
Galatians

That should be a ton to start off with there (although it's not ten). Try reading someting other than the KJV to start with, because it is very difficult to understand if you are not used to the old English style. I love parallel Bibles and carry a NIV/KJV parallel Bible. (A parallel Bible is one that has 2 or more versions side by side for comparison.)

Also, get a good commentary, like Warren Wiersbe's Bible Exposition Commentary of the New Testament. It is a very plainly stated and conservatively based study of Scripture. It's probably the first book (set of 2 actually) that I'd buy to help with your studies. Don't rely solely on any one commentary, though, as none are perfect.

hello :)

IMPORTANT: we drown in a flood of christian secondary literature. that includes devotionals, commentaries, concordances, all kinds of christian books, even study bible notes.
DO NOT BUILD YOUR THEOLOGY (understanding of god) ON THEM

go to the word of god (66 books, in the translation that speaks best to you) for the beginning of your walk with god to have a solid foundation.

do not go for what you are interested in reading, ask god everytime you take counsel
in supplementary human writings.

human wisdom sounds so logical to us, yet it can distort and hinder us from god to do his will in our lives.

as you will grow and get to know god better, what are the privileges of life with him and what he grants us to work on as coworkers with him, and the times we live in, you will understand why my counsel sounds so uncompromising.

the lists mentioned are fully supportable

remember, if you are willing to do his will, he will teach you all you need to know, and more !

be blessed as you discover scripture
.................................................................................................................
i have seen a limit to all perfection, but your word is exceedingly broad (psalm 119)

greetings

The Quest Study Bible was my first Bible when I was a new believer, and it was very helpful. And I also recommend using a One Year Bible or some other Bible-in-a-year plan. Having the full council of God's Word is crucial and it will bless you richly.
