In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Umm...good for a thirteen year old girl? This question may be a little out of my league. :D

Cardcaptor Sakura is a good one, totally free of smut or language. It's one that you can't help but love no matter what age you are. :)

I second that thought.

But it really depends on what you want. Choosing a specific anime based just on your age isn't really a good idea. When I was 16, I liked Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin... So, what you should really be telling us is what kind of stories and genres you like (romance, action, horror, etc.). Then it would be fairly easier for you to figure out what to pick.

I've got a headache, so I'm not sure if this makes much sense. Sorry if it doesn't.

Also why are you interested in getting into manga I don't mean to insult you its just most people I know either came crossed while flipping through the channels or introduced to it by friends they didn't just go out looking for it.

Since you have specifically requested a recommendation for a manga that might be good for a 13 year old girl to read, I assume I am within the Christian Forums rules to post this URL: www.SerenityBuzz.com

Ummm.... not to burst your bubble, but that's not technically manga, just because it is drawn in a specific style doesn't mean that it is manga. this is just a manga-styled american comic book.

Manga is, by definition, japanese in nature and culture schemes. For a comic book to be a "manga" it has to have some type of japanese culture in it, gaijin (foriegners) can draw manga, but you need to study japanese culture and religion to really draw "real" manga. From what I read of this "serenity" when my mom dragged me to a christian bookstore the other day, it seems that the author thought manga-styled drawing was cool and decided to do a comic in that style, it has no relation to japanese culture and in my opinion it is just a another way that christians are trying to ruin a good thing, by naming this comic after a popular following in the U.S.;)

I think a good manga for a thirteen year old girl would be "Fushigi Yugi", it's got some good humor and romance in it.:)

Did you look at the back of the book and see that what I took to be one of the two authors and main inker for the "Serenity" manga is Japanese? That was one of the things that really excited me about this new manga. I read it sitting on the floor in the bookstore and really liked it. I think they playfully poked at the fact that it was a christian manga, which I thought was great! The story was really good too, aside from moving a little too fast in parts.

I would definitely recommend "Serenity" for this 13&under manga question.

The other ones that I've seen for that age-range just seem a little too kid-ish for my taste. It could just be my style preference though, so I'm not stating law or anything here. :p

umm.....that doesn't really matter, just cause someone japanese INKS it doesn't mean it's manga. I think it's more like a graphic novel, it's manga like the "that's so raven" comics are mangas.

oh and by the way the name Min Kwon, which I assume is the "japanese" inker you're talking about is actually a Korean name, most japanese names do not end with consanents. In fact most japanese words end in vowels.

Yes! That's the name I was thinking of! I didn't realize that it was a Korean name. I have a friend that's Korean and she's not very artistic. Beside the point though...she rules nonetheless. :) I didn't know that "That's So Raven" is a comic. Weirdness...

Um, I guess I didn't realize how hardcore and kind of negative you were. My apologies. I'm excited because it's a step in the right direction, which many 'christians' that I've talked to (especially on the CF) seem to be too afraid to take. Once the big 'christian' companies see that this is what the mass audiences are wanting, they'll invest more money into it, which means better quality and etc.

But I think it's a really cool story and idea. My opinion, OBVIOUSLY. Thank you for the correction info though. I appreciate it.

Negima? Hmmm...never heard of it. I did enjoy Love Hina though, ecept for the parts that boys shouldn't watch though. :o ;)

Does Negima have the same storyline and such that Love Hina did?

No not really. ITs about a ten year old wizard named Negima who wants to become the BEST. But to become the best he has to past a test. "His test is to be a teacher in the real world. So he gets sent to a ALL-girl's Jr. High and all the girls thought it was a joke at first. Then it goes on with magic spells and fighting and all that good stuff. The 8th chapter is suppose to be comeing out this month. I can't wait!! Negima is made by the same author as Love Hina.

Ah-ha! The boy-in-an-all-girls-situation thing going on. Always good laughs there. :)

I really enjoyed Love Hina because it didn't deal with all the magic and fighting and stuff. The boob jokes did get a little old sometimes, but it was still a good show. I didn't like the manga as much though because it had a lot more of those kind of jokes. :p Just not my style I guess.

But then again, I really enjoy Full Metal Alchemist also, both manga and anime. So even though I'm not big on the magic/fighting/crude humor type of thing, if the story is really good then I get totally get into it. *shrug* My tastes are really weird like that, I think.
