Sufferings I offer up that probably shouldn't be considered sufferings.

So as Catholics we often hear "Offer it up" when we're suffering or even just slightly annoyed by some problem or burden in our life. I have a list of things that are slight annoyances that I tend to say "God I offer you this suffering" whenever they occur and I realize they should probably not be offered up but here they are.....

1.) When my husband flips on a Protestant radio station and a screamy radio preacher is hollerin about something from the bible and it doesn't make any sense. So I say "This screaming idiot doesn't make any sense." And my husband says "yeah but i feel what he means" as if the whole purpose of the Christian faith is to look into the bible, sit around in a pot circle and scream about nothing. Then hubby gets mad at me and says I'm not Christian enough because I don't follow some moron preacher. In another post on this thread I will go ahead and give you guys a lay out of what this idiot was screaming about. If you get high first you might understand...I think he was high when he was giving his sermon.

2.) Kids bible songs....my husband turns them on and plays them and I get an instant headache. Children and a woman singing stupid repetitive love songs to God. "Lil Boy Blue come blow your horn, hallelujah" or something like that. and they say that like 45 times....

3.) When my husband turns the station from secular rock music to contemporary rock Christian music. Today it was DCtalk or something and none of the words made a lick of sense. and i do not do not like christian rock music. So according to my husband that means I'm not very Christian because Jesus aint my boyfriend and Noah aint my brother.

I'd rather listen to secular music than christian contemporary music. sorry peeps. :sorry:

but if you walkin in da light you clean of da sins
but you sayin to me why i need jesus blood to wash my sins if im walkin in the light
well the word says you gotta walk in the light ya see
and it says you gotta be washed in the blood of jesus
but you cant be washed of that dirt if you walkin in the dark
because you gotta walk in the light to see the dirt
but you wonderin why you dirty if you walkin in the light if sposedly you got clean thats why you in the light
but you didnt...you need the blood of jesus to wash you and thats the cross.
and the power of the cross cant work in the dark...yeah. so you gotta walk in the light to see the dirt then you can be washed of the dirt because the power of the cross only works in the light.

and he got a bunch of mhms and amens and I was over in my passenger seat scratching my head going "what is this dip *** saying anyway?" I am going with the assumption he was puffing and passing while reading.....

i was confused. someone else can feel free to translate that. but i offered up my headache to God.

If it is suffering to you, it is suffering. God does not compare flogging one's self to listening to the evangelist guy on the radio. :)

At least he's turning on something faith based. That can lead to bigger things.

Seriously? The preaching on the Blood of Christ is bothersome to you?

Believe me, with some of the narcissistic tripe and absolute shlock out there, that someone is preaching on what provides for our salvation, namely the Blood of Jesus is actually a good thing!

Why? Because it's Christ and His Cross that, alone, provides for everything in our salvation. Every single grace...flows from Christ's Cross. The grace that even brought you to the knowledge of God flows from the Cross. The grace that allows you to say yes or no to God. The grace of the Sacraments, especially Baptism, the Eucharist and Confession...bought with the Blood. The grace given in Confirmation...purchased by every precious Drop. Don't get me started on what the Blood means to me, chief of sinners. :preach:

Can I get an amen? :amen:

I'm happy to be reminded of it at every opportunity.

preaching on the blood of christ didnt bother me. not understanding what the hay the guy was talking about did. it didnt make any sense at all. it was no better than listening to my half sister when she used to pull out her bible after smoking a big fat joint. she'd lead her in home bible study and say a lot of nothing.

I can do the same thing. Saying meaningless goobdly gock whether you reference scripture or doctor seuss is still meaningless. Period.

Not everyone holding a bible and speaking the words they read on the page is a good preacher.

Well he is probably preaching to his regular audience who know where h was coming from. Sermons & Bible study & instruction are two different things.

His style probably turned you off but you get that anywhere.

But you can offer up whatever is distressing you. God can turn it for good.

First of all... it's okay if you don't get his way of living his faith.. all you really need to do is be grateful that your husband is a Christian and is trying to honor his faith in Christ... even when it is contrary to our own Christian beliefs as Catholic.

Love him. Hold him and thank God you have him to share your life with. I know it is not easy to live with a husband who believes differently than you, but love him.

Life is so short and the time we have with our family is shorter than we know.

Be true to your own beliefs while respecting his beliefs and in time, he will notice that. Pray for him and for your family.. and just love him, completely, fully and truly. Put him in God's hands and trust the Holy Spirit to guide him in a good direction spiritually.

And yes, give up your suffering to the cross. I know it hurts when we have husbands that stray or go in a different spiritual direction then us... all we can do is love them and through that love, they will see Christ shine through us and it gives the Holy Spirit room to do His work.

My husband recently passed away. We were married for 31 plus years and I miss him so much... hug your husband and love him and hold onto him... and just accept him for who he is... we don't have to agree with them on things... like faith, but we do need and should love them and pray for them... and be strong and true to what we believe in without putting them down for what they believe in.

I know it's a burden to bear... but bear it, we must... because that is part of loving someone unconditionally... completely and fully... faithfully and with loyalty and that is "marriage". The true meaning of marriage. Joining one life to another's while learning and growing and exploring life together.

I just don't get it most of the time. He will listen to the most anti-Catholic stuff and get upset when I tell him to turn it off. I can't stand televeangelism or radio evangelism. Thats why we go to both churches on Sunday, so I don't have to hear an idiot screaming about nothing on the radio.

I like my radio for music, not screaming guy whose argument holds no water and makes no sense whatsoever. My husband has no particular faith. Just non-denom. It makes no sense to me to agree with every single radio evangelist that comes on because that is an impossibility. They all say something that disagrees with what the last guy said. Why even turn it on??

This truly is a burden. Hugs. All you can really do is pray for him and give it up to the cross and love him. I'm sorry to keep repeating the same thing... it's just that... when it comes right down to it, the bottom line... is how we love each other. Let him have his faith... and at the same time, show him what true faith is... by loving him despite his anti-Catholicism. Think of Christ... of His great love for us and ask for God to help you and give you grace to help sustain you through it... while you tell him how you love him and cherish him and that you are glad that he has faith in Christ and that it is an encouragement for you to be joined to a man that loves Jesus because you love Jesus and that the sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins is so amazing to you and that you too love Jesus for the blood He shed on the cross and for the resurrection...baby steps...planting a little seed here and there... and praying... God will sustain you through it... be true to your faith and God will help your husband to find a deeper and more profound faith within the Catholic faith.. but the key is in how you love your husband and respect him. If your husband is truly saying anything disrespectful to you about your faith... it's okay to say... ouch and sweet heart, I respect your faith... please respect me enough not to criticize my faith. As a Catholic, we, too believe in the blood of Christ and His resurrection... and His gift of the hope of salvation.. we just use a different terminalogy.

Or change the subject and talk about fun stuff while just loving him... it's a burden that you are called to bear... but you are not alone. Christ is with you.

hes not anti-catholic. just tends to listen to the anti-catholic preachers and not even hear them say stuff like lent is based on gods worshipping and paganism. he will only hear the stuff he wants and ignore the anti-catholic stuff.

but i do try.

i try not to say snarky stuff ever. the only time i get mad is when the preacher is annoyingly loud, says stuff that makes no sense and is just him talking himself in circles, or is anti-catholic.

i dont like billy graham for instance.

I get it... my dad told me about 2 months ago that I was basically going to hell because I refused to pigeon hole Christ on a date of His return... I understand. All I could do was pray.

That is all we can do... really is pray and not allow our own faith to falter or lose our peace of mind with knowing that Christ is with us... we are not alone and yes... when you are hurt, please give that pain to the cross. Christ does understand and even when others don't... Christ does.

I wish that there was more to say, but I don't know what more to say. I know it hurts and I know it's not easy, but please don't be discouraged... if you can... hold him and just love him and without words, he will see Christ in you and that will speak to his heart in ways that words will never speak to his heart.

He will be in my prayers and you too. hugs.
