Submitting a VERY rough theory

The theory is absolutely not complete and this is only the first draft, but I wanted to share it for thoughts and such. Please be kind as I am not saying that this is doctine or even what I believe, but it was my thoughts for the moment. It is based off a comparison of evolution and creation and how they could be compatible. If there are any factual flaws besides the ones that I have already acknowledged, please let me know.


Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Big bang - everything comes into existence

Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

The earth was all ocean held in place by the gravitational pull of the mantel and the core

Genesis 1:3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

All the stars are created and the earth is forced into orbit around the sun

Genesis 1:4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

Because of the orbit, the earth began to spin as well.

Genesis 1:5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning-- the first day.

Factoring in the speed at which light travels, it is reasonable to think that the light had not yet reached the earth, at this point the light reaches the earth and the first rising and setting of the sun occurs (from earth's perspective) hence the first day.

Genesis 1:6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."

Forming of the earth's atmosphere so that life on earth would be possible. Possibly when clouds and such started to form with the process of evaporation and condensation

Genesis 1:7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.

It is hypothesized that the expanse above the earth was how the great flood came to be, because God released it to fall. The ozone layer would have remained though. This possibly could have been why people lived so much longer before the flood than after when God declared that man shall only live 120 years. The difference in the environment could have caused faster aging and so on.

Genesis 1:8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning-- the second day.

The area between the expanses would be the atmosphere as we know it...just without the extra water.

Genesis 1:9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.

Because of all the plate movement, parts of the ocean floor are shooting up from all the pressure and mountains and landforms are being formed as well as the great valleys in the ocean.

Genesis 1:10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

God likes his creation....YAY!

Genesis 1:11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so.

Now that here is land on the earth that is being moistened by the waters and photosynthesis from the sun plants began to sprout with life that can only come from a creator. God knew that He was going to have man and animals to feed, so he created plants that could automatically reproduce.

Genesis 1:12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

God likes it!

Genesis 1:13 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the third day.

How much time was this really? I don't know, from the fact that the words evening and morning were used, it would seem that it would be a 24 hour period, but Earth also wasn't necessarily spinning at the same rate it is now. Because of the way that the sun is pulling the earth in a circle, it seems that it might over the years begin to spin faster.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and year, Genesis 1:15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.

Ah yes, the light from the stars finally gets to the earth. Although they were created when God said let there be light, because of the speed of light, it has taken this long for their light to reach earth

Genesis 1:16 God made two great lights-- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. Genesis 1:17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, Genesis 1:18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:19 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the fourth day.

Here is the moon. As to the sun being the other great light, here is where the fact that this is just a theory, and as such contains flaws or holes, comes into play. If this is the sun and the moon, I do not know what the light refered to in the first day was.

Genesis 1:20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." Genesis 1:21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.Genesis 1:22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."Genesis 1:23 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the fifth day.

If I remember correctly, in the theory of evolution, sea creatures are first formed, and then other types of life, such as birds. In my theory...which is obviously flawed, God may have created one out of the other as time went on, or possibly the order that he created them in makes it look like they were formed from the less complex organism. Because animals, from my understanding don't have sould, I see no reason why it would be a problem for one to be created from another or why they wouldn't have evolved. If he instructed that the water would team with life, perhaps god did use natural meathods to create them.


Genesis 1:24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. Genesis 1:25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

From my understanding, in the theory of evolution, mammals came along last. If God said for the land to produce mammals, why couldn't they have evolved? the scripture specifies that the land produced mammals, and then talks about creating many kinds of mammals, this is true for the fish and birds as well. If they did evolve, it is evident that God guided it all through the process and had each animal in mind as it was formed.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

Genesis 2:7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

I put these two sections together because clearly, man was made separately from all the animals. The creation of man was the only time that God said "Let us make..." and man was the only thing that had life breathed into it. Therefore, man was uniquely and purposefully created directly by the hand of God. The breath from god would be the creation of the soul and the reason that humans have souls and animals do not.

This is the problem with trying to interpret Genesis as being compatible with science. There are oodles of scientific factual errors in this.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

No, everything does not come into existence. Space, time and sub-atomic particles come into existence. That's all.

Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

The earth was all ocean held in place by the gravitational pull of the mantel and the core

No. The earth was never all ocean. At first there was no liquid water on it at all. And it did not exist at all until long after there was light. (About 8 to 10 billion years after.)

Genesis 1:3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

All the stars are created and the earth is forced into orbit around the sun

Not all the stars. Only the first stars. The sun was not one of the first stars so it didn't exist yet. Neither did the earth. The earth never needed to be forced into orbit around the sun; it has been orbiting the sun since it was only unaccumulated dust.

Genesis 1:4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

Because of the orbit, the earth began to spin as well.

And it was never not spinning either. So it never had to begin to spin.

Genesis 1:5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning-- the first day.

As noted, it only takes 8 minutes for the light of the sun to reach earth.

But since the earth originally had no liquid water, there were no waters to be separated.

This possibly could have been why people lived so much longer before the flood than after when God declared that man shall only live 120 years. The difference in the environment could have caused faster aging and so on.

This assumes that the firmament was a temporary structure which disappeared when the waters descended to make the flood. Scripture does not support this scenario. Later passages in the OT speak of the firmament being still in place in the days of David and Ezekiel.

The area between the expanses would be the atmosphere as we know it...just without the extra water.

If there had been extra water in the atmosphere, the added air pressure would have raised the temperature of the earth so high that life on earth would not be possible.

Because of all the plate movement, parts of the ocean floor are shooting up from all the pressure and mountains and landforms are being formed as well as the great valleys in the ocean.

This is reasonable as long as enough time is allowed for this to happen. Had this sort of thing happened rapidly and recently, the earth would not yet be cool enough to support life.

Genesis 1:10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

Photosynthesis comes from the chlorophyll in the plants not from the sun. And fortunately there are other forms of life besides plants that are capable of photosynthesis--notably cyanobacteria and many algae. These live in the oceans, rivers and lakes and supplied the only photosynthesis for billions of years before any plants grew on land. Sea animals also lived long before there were any plants on land.

Actually, it is the other way around. The earth used to spin faster than it does now.

The light from many stars had plenty of time to arrive in the vicinity of the earth before the earth even existed.

Well,as far as the earth is concerned, the sun is about the same age as the earth, so there were no earth days without the sun. It is believed that the moon was formed from matter thrown from the earth into space by a very large meteor hit when the earth's crust was still molten. This would be very early in earth's history.

Genesis 1:20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." Genesis 1:21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. The major problem is that the division of the creation of sea & air animals from land animals suggests that all sea creaturs and all birds existed before there were any land animals at all, and we know this is not the case. Yes, clams and sharks and fish existed before reptiles and mammals, but whales are mammals and did not exist before other mammals--including land mammals. Also both whales and birds evolved from land animals--whales from a mammalian group and birds from dinosaurs.

Similarly, different plants appeared at different times. They did not all exist before any animals existed. Many sea creatures existed before any land plants existed at all. Most dinosaur species never saw a flowering plant or fruit tree. They became extinct before such plants existed. Only the dinosaurs that survived into the Cretaceous knew such plants.

Genesis 1:24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. Genesis 1:25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. Actually, I believe birds are the most recent major group. Small mammals existed throughout the age of dinosaurs. What is different after the extinction of the dinosaurs is that large mammals begin appearing.

Yet there is abundant evidence that biologically humans did evolve and share a common ancestor with chimpanzees and other great apes.


Genesis simply cannot be reconciled with science as we know it. Yet good science is also God's truth. That is why Genesis cannot be taken as a literal history of how creation happened. It must be understood as a different literary form than history. Equally true but not literally factual.
