  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, anyone who would like me to teach them to make a hat by loom knitting, let me know in this thread. If you are interested here is the supplies list:

Set of Round Looms: My set is made my KniftyKnitter, but I have seen a cheaper and better set at Hobby Lobby. The KniftyKnitter set runs around $12 and the other set runs at around $10. I like the other set because the pegs have a little niche that is just perfect for the knitting tool. Plus, the needle that comes with it is bigger and nicer than the KniftyKnitter one.

Two Skeins of Nylon Yarn: Pick very simple nylon yarn. Don't try the fancy yarns yet or you will get discouraged. Just plain yarn which should run you about $3.00 per skein.

This will be enough yarn to make a hat and a scarf, but the first lesson will be to make a hat because it is the easiest thing to do.

...something is looming on the horizon...
LOL

This sounds like fun Lisa! I will be watching the thread. I have to spend my extra money this paycheck on homecshooling items, but perhaps I will be able to try this later in the month!

Thank you for sharing this with all of us. I'm really looking forward to learning some new crafts. My 15-year-old daughter wants to learn how to knit, so perhaps we will learn together!!! :)

Can you teach me to knit a cover for my computer keyboard?

Maybe. I think that would need a Rectangle loom. I have one but I haven't used it yet. Let me think about that and see if I can figure out how that would be done.

I'd like to try this Lisa. I love hats.
I'll have to look about and see where I can get a loom. We don't have Hobby Lobby up here. I suppose Michael's or even Wal-Mart?
Anyway. Count me in!
Oh...and you said 2 skeins of yarn. About what size? Because they vary such a lot from about 50 grams to several 100 grams. (an oz or 2 to several oz). And...does it have to be nylon? Or does that just work better with a loom?

Each skein should be at least 100 grams.or 3.5 ounces whichever is listed.

Oh and your other questions. Yeah, Walmart and Michaels will probably have them as well.

The Nylon yarn is generally what I find. It is rare to find all cotten. The point is to find something very simple and with some elastic to it. Later on after you are used to working with the loom, you can use most anything.

Like that scarf that I call Seashell was made out of Boucle and Ribbon yarn.
