No .. there are times Christians will see relative peace but it's usually the case that even so Christians who are firm in their faith might be passed over for promotions and more when they find they can't acquiesce to demands on them that contradict their faith.

Most Christians don't care... So it doesn't affect their day to day life much.

It's not a stupid question at all. I would say that all Christians will be persecuted to some extent, but it may be that some, like your Granddad, suffer so little persecution that they do not seem to suffer any. Of course I don't know your Granddad, but I wonder if it could be that the people around him are loving to him, but some of them talking among themselves might say things like: "Yes, he's a lovely man, but I can't understand why he believes all that being-saved-by Jesus nonsense!" Jesus did say that His followers would have persecution.

What is the biblical definition of persecute?

The definition of religious persecution is mistreatment or ridicule of a person or group of people based on their religious beliefs or lack of religious beliefs.

Persecution is not necessarily tied to violence. You might ask your Granddad if he's ever been ridiculed because of his beliefs ... likely has ????

There were times when enemies of Jesus behaved themselves around Jesus because they feared what the people would do to them if they openly persecuted Jesus. Like this, it is possible that there are people who act nice with your grandfather, because they do not want trouble from the ones who really do love and honor him. And there is the inheritance aspect.

Also, possibly he has gotten away from ones who were problem people. So, now the persecution might not be so obvious.

And he has learned how to deal with trouble people, so they see he is not trying to hurt them, plus they see how they will make themselves look bad if they do and say things against him, since he won't try to fight them back and others will see them making fools of themselves.

There have been persecutors who have earlier in his life gotten themselves into traps of their own ways so now they can't do much against him. He let God deal with them, and now they are the ones cancelled.

Hello sh3nmue, the Scriptures tell us that,


The thing is, if all that it takes for others to want to persecute us is the "desire" to live godly in Christ Jesus, then how could any true believer ever hope to completely escape it in this life?

That said, Christian persecution isn't always a "bad" thing (as odd as that may sound), sometimes it can actually help us know things about ourselves and/or about our walks that we might otherwise have missed.

It can also be helpful as we seek to know the will of God for our lives and/or for our ministries because if God is truly part of something that were doing, then you can bet that it won't be long before Satan swoops in to do his best to mess things up for us (seeking God's will in this manner requires great care and discernment, as I'm sure you can imagine).

That's a great question. The answer is sad and grievous. Some of the best known and popular strong christians in the usa /world?/ are called fine good great examples and good men, but they are totally fake (or were, the ones who have past on). The world loves its own, and loves pretenders.

2Ti_3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

The word translated persecution in Greek carries with it the idea of being put to flight. The idea is that trying to live godly in the world will result in rejection by the world.
