Stupid question

When you use the quick reply here, what program makes just your post update at the bottom of the page instead of the whole page reloading? I'm having trouble with a website I have to use at work that has this same type of partial page updating & was wondering what I needed to do to remedy the problem.

it uses a group of technologies called AJAX. Asynchronous Javascript And XML. Basically they use javascript to send the content back to the server, and then retrieve the updated content and then update the page you're viewing. in short.
