Just kind of rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? I think they just didn't want to get confused with the "Church of Jesus Christ in God of the glory sea assemblies ministries". That's probably the reason for the long name.

I once drove through a town in central Texas and passed “First Baptist Church”, drove about five blocks, crossed the railroad tracks, and saw another church sign that announced “Greater First Baptist Church”. I’m sure those signs could tell an interesting story.

Hmm.. well, when confronted with strange church names, I usually try to pull it apart into its component parts

• Assemblies Ministries: If you Google "assembly ministry" you'll find a number of churches with that appelation. I haven't heard it before, so I don't know how wide-spread it is, or if there is any historical or doctrinal connection among them. But it seems a legitamate self-naming convention.
• The Church of: Seems pretty clear, and many church names start this way.
• Jesus Christ in God of the glory land: This is where it gets confusing to me. "Gloryland" or "Glory Land" is indeed used in some church names that I found through Google. But the whole phrase as written here just doesn't parse. However, if it were "Jesus Christ is God of the Gloryland", that might make some more sense.

So although it's pretty long, The Church of "Jesus Christ is God of the Gloryland" Assemblies Ministries... well, it still doesn't really parse, does it?

Question: what is it with the idea of FIRST church? First Baptist and so on and so forth, I have heard it before but never in the UK. What does it mean?

Is there a Second Baptist in a town ? Or a Third Baptist? Who ranks them? Is it chronological order or size? If you have a revival, do you get to move up the ranks?

Can you move up to first church by having the best bake sales?

I know I am being slightly facetious, but it is a serious question: WHAT DOEs FIRST mean in FIRST CHURCH?

When I was a kid I always thought it funny that the church van for "The Overcoming Church of Jesus Christ with Signs and Wonders Following" had the church name written down the side of the van... but since it wouldn't fit, it wrapped around and the last few letters were actually on the back of the van.
