  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Although some may question the validity of this article, I found it quite interesting. It was printed from a new age sort of view, but I believe it can show the impact of prayer
and also the music we listen to. So please read this with a discerning heart and mind, but stay open to the truth to be gleaned here as it is appropriate for us as Christians. I did cut the article short for that purpose.

Food for the soul: A prayer at meals By KATHERINE O’CONNELL

From our lips to God’s ears is an old saying. Each spiritual tradition has its own spoken, chanted and sung variations to the poetry of devotion. For as long as there have been hungry and thirsty people, we have prayed at meals, offering blessing and thanks for these gifts of sustenance. Where there is food, there is also water. This planet’s life-giving substance, water is present to in all foods we eat.

Prayer traditions have always been rich devotionally, and now there is evidence that the formula of devotion we proffer at the table may actually affect the molecular structure of the substances to which it is directed.

Consider the research on the effect of prayer on water molecules by Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese traditional medicine practitioner and researcher. For his book, "Messages From Water," Emoto tested water samples from different sources to investigate the effect of prayer on the quality of water crystals.

Using magnetic resonance technology (similar to the MRI technology used in diagnostic scanning), Emoto observed that no two types of water have exactly the same crystals.

His before and after photos of the molecular structure of water, include:· Water before and after spoken prayer. The water responded to prayer by forming an organized snowflake-like shape.· Water to which word-labels were attached, with one label showing the Japanese Kanji for "soul" and one with the Kanji for "demon." The soul water had an organization; the other water did not.· Plain water and water labeled "thank you."The "thank you" water organized itself into a six-sided, star-like shape.·

Water exposed to the music of Enya and water exposed to heavy metal music. The Enya water was organized into a six-sided star shape, while the heavy metal water appeared broken apart. It appears that water crystals organize into this star shape after both spoken and unspoken prayer are directed to the water. This loving intention expressed through prayer is most powerful when the prayer is uttered aloud. Prayer is a great equalizer. We don’t have to be a priest or practice any particular religion to express thankfulness for the food that is placed in front of us. Gratefulness as an intention is a universal principle.

Collective prayer can have marvelous results. Consider the example of my friend Rosie in Cape town, South Africa. I met her in 1999 when I led a Truth and Reconciliation service for the Parliament of the World’s Religions.Rosie lives in a structure about the size of a two-car garage, more akin to a shack than a house. Through prayer and hard work, she manages to feed 400 children before school each day. Too poor to buy so many pounds of beans on her meager support, Rosie and the children pray each day that enough beans will present themselves to feed these kids.

Word of their devotion and love spread, and soon she had sponsors providing food for her before-school meal program. Rosie and the children pray before and after their shared morning meal. This approach has worked for four years now. In every tradition there are miraculous happenings around food and prayer — from the miracle of the loaves..............................................
