• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've finnaly decided to stop, er, masturbating. Only because while masturbation in itself is ok, the thoughts that come with it (at least for me) are not. Being 16, I'm kind of at that age where the hormones are flying, and, well, yeah.

See, I saw...ehhh...masturbation, as a kind of outlet for my, er, sexual...temptations. The problem is, when I go without, er, masturbating, for more than a few days, I get incredibly angry and figity. I've been told this is normal, and that it's ok...but, I'm not so sure.

I mean, would Jesus want me to be angry and on edge with people because of built up testostorone? It's even starting to effect sleep. Normally it helped me get to sleep fast, and now, without that, I toss and turn and am just so, on edge.

I don't know what to do. Should I continue with this path and not do it anymore? Or should I do it once or twice a week to control it? Or should I just touch regularly.

I know lust is sinful, but when I don't touch, that lust builds up inside of me. However, it's not bad at all if not non-existant after I have masturbated, because I'm sexually spent. Should I have the little lust comes along with masturbation to prevent the larger lust in the end??

Please help, I'm so confused and troubled ,
Eric

The fact that not masturbating is throwing a wrench into other aspects of your life I think indicates that you should continue.

Now, if you really do want to stop, going cold turkey won't do it. You will need to train your body to gradually accept the fact that there won't be that release anymore.

Getting rid of the lustful thoughts will be much more difficult since the world is continually throwing images at us. It can still be done, but it will take a lot of work to "reprogram" your mind to disassociate masturbation with those thoughts.

I'd be more than willing to help you out through your struggle, as I've followed the subject a bit closely.

Good luck, and let me know if you want help.
